Another name: black shell of broad bean.

[source] it is the pod shell of faba bean, a leguminous plant.

[chemical composition] it contains β - (3 - (β - d-glucopyranoxy) - 4-hydroxyphenyl) - L-alanine. It also contains glyceric acid. See "broad bean stem".

[pharmacological action] glycyrrhizic acid in pods has diuretic effect on rabbits injected subcutaneously.

[function and indications] it is used to treat hemoptysis, epistaxis, hematuria, gastrointestinal bleeding, surgical field bleeding, pemphigus and scald.

[usage and dosage] oral administration: decoction, 0.5-1 Liang; or made into powder. External use: stir fry charcoal, grind and apply carefully.

② Treatment of pemphigus, water and fire burns: stir fry the shell of broad bean and grind it fine, then apply it with sesame oil. (commonly used Chinese herbal medicine in Shanghai)

[clinical application] for hemostasis

It is effective for hemoptysis, epistaxis, hematuria, alimentary tract hemorrhage and operation field hemorrhage. One Decoction: half a jin of fresh pods, fried in water, twice a day. It is used for medium and small amount of hemoptysis. Second powder: the broad bean pod decoction was filtered, concentrated, heated and dried. Take it 3 times a day, 0.5g each time. It is used for epistaxis and hematuria patients, with temporary hemostasis. Three injections: 20% injections made from Podocarpus powder, 5 ml each time, twice a day, intramuscular injection. It is used for hemoptysis of pulmonary tuberculosis. It can also be directly used for hemostasis in the operation field. The hemostatic mechanism of pods needs further study.
