Liana perennialis, 20-60 cm high. Stem erect, upper part much branched. Leaves alternate, subsessile, lanceolate, 1.5-5 cm long, coarsely serrated or deeply lobed above middle margin. Inflorescence solitary branch apex; involucral bracts oblong or obovate, reddish purple; marginal flowers white, ligulate; carpels tubular, yellow, ca. 3 mm long, 5-toothed. Achenes glabrous, obovate, flat, black, hairy. It blooms in autumn.
Born in the low mountains or on the roadside of Pingchuan. Distributed in Shaanxi and central provinces.
[collection] harvested in summer and autumn, dried in the shade or fresh.
[flavor] bitter, slightly pungent, flat.
Functions and indications: Xiaoshi Jianwei, Quyu Jiedu, treating infantile malnutrition, diarrhea, dysentery, snake bite, traumatic bleeding.
[usage and dosage] oral: decoction, 2-3 yuan. External use: tamping.
