[plant morphology] Laoya persimmon
Deciduous shrub, up to 3 m high. The main root is stout with dark brown skin and tough texture. The branches are thin and slightly curved, spiny, and the young branches are covered with dark brown hairs. Leaves alternate, ovate rhombic to obovate, 4-5.5 cm long and 2-3 cm wide, apex pointed or obtuse, base narrowly cuneate, with yellowish hairs on the top along lateral veins, falling off when old, and sparsely pilose below. Flowers white, solitary in leaf axils, unisexual, dioecious. Fruit ovoid or ovate, ca. 2 cm in diameter, apex pointed, villous, orange yellow at maturity: persistent sepals leathery, nearly oblong lanceolate, apex acuminate, with prominent straight veins. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruiting period is October.
It grows in the thickets on the sunny hillside, under the sparse forest, in the hilly land and beside the village road. It is distributed in East China.
