[synonyms] milkvetch root (classified herbal medicine), guanzha root (Zhejiang folk herbal medicine), and leaf prickle head (Quanzhou herbal medicine).

[source] it is the root of Elaeagnus angustifolia, which belongs to elaeagaceae.

[collection] from September to October.

[medicinal materials] the dry roots are cylindrical and curved. They are usually cut into 30-35 cm long sections with different thicknesses. The diameter of the thick roots is 3-3.5 cm, and the diameter of the fine roots is 1 cm. The surface is yellowish brown, and the xylem is yellowish white after peeling off the root bark. It is hard in texture, strong in fiber in cross section and dark in central color.

The root of Pinellia ternate and the root of Pinellia ternate in Sichuan area are called cow milk root, and are used equally. Please refer to the "root of pinellia tuber".
