[plant morphology] Holly with plum leaves, also known as Gangmei and caolouxing (essential preparation of raw herbs), pseudoqingmei, guaxingmu, baidianguai, Mantianxing, pseudoliquorice and tianxingmu.

Deciduous shrub, 1-2m high. The branches are bald, short hairy and purple when tender. Leaves alternate, ovate, obovate or elliptic, 2.5-8 cm long and 1.5-3 cm wide, papery, apex acute to acuminate, margin serrate, base broadly cuneate to rounded, glabrous above or slightly short hairy below, main veins raised; petiole 6-10 mm long. The flowers are white, dioecious, with 2-3 male flowers clustered or solitary in leaf axils or scale axils, 5-10 mm long petiole, 4-5 numbers, ovate calyx, ciliary margin, 3.5 mm long stamens and short filaments; the female flowers are solitary in leaf axils, 4-6 numbers, 2.5 cm long slender pedicel, 1 pistil, short style and shallow stigma. Fruit globose, ca. 6 mm in diam., black at maturity. There are 4-6 nuclei. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from July to August.

It grows under sparse forest or shrub on barren mountain slope. Distributed in Guangxi, Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi and other places.

[clinical application] prevention and treatment of various infections
