Deciduous tree, up to 15-20 meters high, diameter at breast height about 30 cm, crown nearly round; bark dark gray brown, rough, longitudinal furrow, branchlets soft, hairy. Single leaf alternate; leathery; obovate to elliptic ovate, 2.5-4.5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, apex short acuminate, base broadly cuneate to rounded, margin serrate, dark green above, light green below, lateral veins about 9 pairs, slender, parallel; petiole 2-4 mm long, pubescent; stipules caducous. Inflorescence racemose; flowers yellowish or reddish; sepals 5, lanceolate to elliptic. Indumentum ciliate; stamens 4-5, prominent. Samara obovate or suborbicular, ca. 1.2 cm wide, apex notched; seed in center. It blooms in early spring.
It grows in sparse forest on hillside. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
