Herbs annual or perennial. Stem erect, about 1 meter high, many branched. Leaves alternate, petiolate; leaves oblong, apex obtuse or pointed, base rounded or cordate, margin slightly undulate. Inflorescence terminal, usually leafy, clusters arranged in whorls; perianth 6, yellow green, 2 whorls, persistent; stamen 6, arranged in 3 pairs, filaments thin and weak, anther base inserted; ovary ribbed, 1-locular, style 3, stigma cleft, brush shaped. Perianth ovate, apex pointed, reticulate, each with an ovate or oblong tuberculate process; achene triangular, sharply ribbed, ca. 2 mm long, brown, smooth, shiny. The flowering period is from April to May.
