Perennial aquatic herbs, 30-130 cm high. The rhizome is short and the fibrous roots are tufted. Leaf blade lanceolate or linear lanceolate, 7-20 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, apex acute, base narrow, entire, slightly thin; petiole 3-20 cm long, half amplexicaul. Cymose panicle; pedicel; bracts green, apex acute; flowers small, white; sepals 3, ovate, green, veined; petals 3, obovate; stamens 6; pistils numerous, style slightly shorter than ovary, stigma small. Achenes are mostly ring-shaped, flat, thin, obliquely obovate, with persistent style on the top and inside, thick on the back and a deep groove in the middle. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from July to October.
It grows on the edge of swamp and paddy field. It is distributed in the south of the Yangtze River Basin.

Functions and indications: clearing heat and dispersing poison. Treatment of skin rash, urinary obstruction, edema, snake bite.
