[plant morphology] land?

Subshrubs scattered or creeping. Glabrous or hirsute. The leaves are small, ovate, obovate, remnant elliptic, 1.2-3 cm long, 8-20 mm wide, apex short pointed, base rounded, with 3-5 main veins. Except for the upper edge and dorsal veins, the rest are bald; the petiole is 2-4 mm long, coarsely hairy. 1-3 flowers, about 2.5 cm in diameter, on branch tips; calyx tube about 5 mm long, coarsely hairy, lobes 5, lanceolate, shorter than calyx tube; petals 5, purplish red, obovate, about 1.2 cm long; stamens 10, 5 strong, anther apical aperture dehiscent; ovary connate with calyx tube, 5-locular, coarsely hairy in appearance. Berry globose, ca. 7 mm in diam., purple when ripe, tomentose. The flowering period is May. The fruit period is from June to July.

It grows in hilly area and near masson pine forest, as well as shrub and grassland. It is distributed in the southeast and southwest of China.

[clinical application] treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding

The whole herb of Herba Rehmanniae was made into water agent with the concentration of 1:2, 20-40 ml for adults each time. Take it with slightly warm water, 3 times a day, and 1-2 times if necessary. Children should be given less. 62 cases of gastric and duodenal ulcer complicated with upper gastrointestinal bleeding were treated. 50 cases were cured (symptoms disappeared, fecal occult blood turned negative), 10 cases were improved (symptoms improved, occult blood changed from strong positive to weak positive), and 1 case was invalid. In 8 cases of gastrointestinal bleeding caused by other reasons, 6 cases were cured, 1 case was improved and 1 case was invalid. Its hemostatic effect may be related to its tannins and phenols.
