Deciduous shrub, 0.8-2 m high. The root is woody, thick and long, dark brown. Branches dark purple, glabrous, branchlets and petiole base with paired prickles, prickles slightly curved or straight. Leaflets 5-9, oblong or broadly lanceolate, 1-3.5 cm long and 0.5-1.5 cm wide, apex pointed or slightly obtuse, base rounded or cuneate, margin serrulate, dark green above, glabrous below, glandular dots and pubescence below; petiole glandular; stipules persistent, 1 cm long, 2 / 3 below, connate with petiole. Flowers solitary or 2-3; dark red, about 4 cm in diameter; sepals narrowly lanceolate, as long as corolla, entire, enlarged in fruit. Fruit globose or ovoid, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, red, with persistent calyx. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from August to September.
It grows in forest margin, open land, riverside, hillside shrub and mixed forest. Distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi and other places.
