[source] it is the whole plant of Sarcandra glabra (Thunb.) Nakai.
[plant morphology] perennial evergreen herbs or subshrubs, up to 2m in height. The rhizome is thick with many and slender branches. Stem erect, multi branched, nodes swollen. Leaves opposite, nearly leathery, oblong or ovate lanceolate, 6-18cm long, 2-7cm wide, margin coarsely serrated, tooth tip glandular; petiole about 1cm long, base united into sheath; stipules minute. It has 1-3 spikes, 1-3 stem apex; bracts ovate triangle; flowers small, no perianth, yellow green, fragrant; stamens 1, white, rod-shaped, anthers 2-locular; pistils globose, ovary inferior, stigma subcapillary. Drupe globose, bright red. The flowering period is from June to July and the fruiting period is from August to September.
It is distributed in East China, Central South China and southwest China.
