In modern times, Qiang people's clothing basically inherited the system of robes, and the clothing fabrics were mainly fur, wool and hemp. According to Daoguang's Maozhou annals, "his clothes are men's felt hat, women's braided hair, cloth wrapped around his head, and clothes in winter and summer." The custom of wrapping the head of Qiang nationality has appeared in the painting of Zhigong in Qianlong period. By the 1920's, Qiang men had changed to head binding. In the 1940s, Qiang costumes became more and more abundant on the basis of inheriting the tradition. Qiang men's clothing is more uniform, with long shirts, robes, trousers, headkerchiefs or fur hats. The traditional clothing of Qiang people is that both men and women wear linen long shirts, sheepskin scarves, bandages, belts and gaiters. Both men and women are wearing a sheepskin vest, commonly known as the "leather coat". On sunny days, the wool is inward, and on rainy days, the wool is outward to prevent rain. There is also a vest made of wool felt, which is slightly longer than the former. Men's long clothes are over the knee, braided and bandaged, and their belts and leggings are mostly made of linen or wool. They usually wear straw sandals, cloth shoes or leather boots. The women's shirt is ankle long, with plum shaped silver ornaments on the collar, lace embroidered on the skirt, cuff and collar, apron and ribbon embroidered on the waist, and patterns embroidered on the belt. This kind of coat can be used to protect against cold, rain and cushion. The shoes are embroidered with cloud patterns and waves. The tips of the shoes are slightly upturned. The collar and cuffs are inlaid with plum shaped silver ornaments and tied with Embroidered Ribbon with lace. They like to wear silver medals, necklaces, earrings, circles, rings and other ornaments. Rich people also inlay the rings with agate, jade and coral. Some of them have oval "sewu" on their chests and coral beads woven with silver wire to pray for happiness and longevity.
