A brief introduction to Axi Xianji

Axixianji, also known as the song of Axi people, is the Creation Epic of Axi people, a branch of Yi nationality. It is oral spread in Xishan area of Mile County, Yunnan Province. Because the long poem is created and sung by artists in Asahi language, scattered among the people, it has not been known by the outside world for a long time. In the 1940s, it was collected and published by the poet Guang Weiran and the linguist yuan Jiahua, which made it widely known to the outside world.

The full text of the poem is about 2000 lines, which is composed of four parts: "Introduction", "the most ancient time", "the combination of men and women" and "epilogue". The contents include the myths and legends of the Axi people (the origin of all things in the world, the causes of natural phenomena, etc.), the love and marriage between men and women ("the combination of men and women") as well as the early national life (the hard life and suffering of human beings in the early days) and the customs of the Axi people. Axixianji is the root spectrum of Axi people, which reflects the persistence, courage and wisdom of Axi people in exploring and understanding nature, and reflects simple materialism. As a result, in the village of Axi people, young men and women often sing to each other in their spare time, becoming a means of courtship.

There is no research on the origin of axixianji. Some scholars believe that it germinated in the primitive society and formed in the feudal society. It is the representation of Axi people's spirit and culture. It provides precious materials and unique perspectives for the study of Axi people's history, culture, economy, philosophy, religion, ethics and aesthetic concepts. It has multi-disciplinary research value.

Axixianji has been handed down from generation to generation by oral transmission. But now the number of people who can sing in Asahi is decreasing, and the number of people who can fully master the singing of Asahi Xianji is even fewer. There is no one who can inherit and inherit Asahi Xianji, which needs to be protected.
