Mudu town
Mudu town is subordinate to Wuzhong District of Suzhou city. It is located 5 kilometers west of Suzhou City, on the shore of Taihu Lake and at the foot of Lingyan mountain, with an area of 62.28 square kilometers (2017) and 293652 people (2017). By the end of 2014, it had 1 office, 9 villages and 14 communities under its jurisdiction. Mudu town is an important industrial, commercial, cultural, educational, tourism and transportation town in Wuzhong District.
In September 2005, Mudu town was selected into the list of the second batch of Chinese historical and cultural towns. It is an ancient garden town with a history of more than 2500 years. It is said that in the spring and Autumn period, Wu Wang Yue was beautiful, built "guanwa Palace" in Lingyan mountain, and added gusutai in Zishi mountain. The project was huge. In the third year of Jucai, the name "building blocks block" and "Mudu" came from it.
In October 2018, it was selected as the "top 100 towns in China's comprehensive strength in 2018". On October 8, 2019, it will be selected into the top 100 towns of China's top 1000 comprehensive strength in 2019. On December 16, 2019, it will be included in the list of the third batch of smart health elderly care demonstration streets (towns).
History of construction
In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), Wu County was established as the former capital of Wu state, and Mudu was subordinate to Wu County. In the Han and Tang Dynasties, Suzhou and Wujun changed each other several times, but Mudu was under the jurisdiction of Wuxian. According to Yuanfeng jiuyu Zhi, "Mudu town was set up in the Northern Song Dynasty, which belongs to Wu County and is named after Du.". The Yuan Dynasty inherited the old system. Ming Dynasty is one of the six towns in Wu County. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the inspection department of Mudu was set up. In Yongzheng period of Qing Dynasty, Mudu town belonged to Changshou township of Wu County. In the 11th year of Qianlong (1746) of the Qing Dynasty, the provincial governor was set up. In the same year, the county magistrate of Wu County was stationed here. In July 1906, local autonomy was implemented.
In 1912, Mudu and Jinshan belonged to Wu County. Mudu public welfare office was established in the fifth year of the Republic of China. In the 17th year of the Republic of China, it was changed into the Executive Council. In the 18th year of the Republic of China, the system of district and township was implemented, which was subordinate to the second (Mudu) District of Wu County. In November of the 26th year of the Republic of China, Mudu fell. In March of the 28th year of the Republic of China, the puppet Wu county magistrate's office established the puppet Mudu Township Office. In March of the Republic of China, the puppet Wu county government restored the establishment of the second (Mudu) District of Wu County. In July of the 30 years of the Republic of China, the second (Mudu) District of puppet Wu County was changed to the seventh (Mudu) District, with jurisdiction over 5 towns and 11 townships, such as Mudu and Jinshan. On August 15, the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the seventh (Mudu) District of the puppet Wu County was changed into the second (Mudu) District of Wu County. In February of the Republic of China, the second (Mudu) district and the third (Guangfu) District of Wu County were merged into Wuxi District, governing Mudu, Jinshan, Baishi, Gusu, Qizi and other towns. In February of the 37th year of the Republic of China, the towns of Mudu and Jinshan still belonged to Wuxi district.
On April 27, 1949, Mudu was liberated. Jianmudu town is under the jurisdiction of Mudu District People's Government of Wu County. In 1950, the districts and townships were adjusted. Mudu District governed Mudu and Shanqiao towns and 12 townships including Gusu, Shicheng, Jinshan and Xinhua. At the end of 1950, Mudu district was reorganized into Mudu and Shanqiao towns and 12 townships including Jinshan, Gusu, Xinhua, Shicheng and Qizi. In November 1952, Mudu was promoted to a town directly under Wu County. In 1954, Mudu Town, Jinshan, Gusu, Shicheng, Xinhua, Qizi and other townships were zoned to the suburbs of Suzhou. In January 1956, Jinshan Township, Xinhua Township and most of Shicheng and Shicheng were merged into Jinshan Township. Gusu Township, Qizi Township and Xindong and Xinnong villages of Mudu town were merged into Gusu township. In March 1957, Jinshan and Gusu were merged into Jinshan Township. Mudu town remained unchanged. In 1958, Mudu town and Jinshan Township were restored to Wu County. In December, Jinshan people's commune was established to implement the system of integration of government and society. In 1983, the government and society were separated, and Jinshan Township was restored. The production brigade was transformed into an administrative village. In September 1985, Jinshan Township was merged with Mudu Town, and the system of town managing village was implemented.

During the period of the Republic of China, Wudu County set up the second (Mudu) district. In the 23rd year of the Republic of China, the second (Mudu) district was under the jurisdiction of Mudu, Xukou, Jinshan, Fengqiao, shanrenqiao, Jiaoshan and Lishu, and 13 townships of Hengjing, Longqiao, Xinguo, Yangfeng, hongliao, Gusu, Gaoyao, Cangshu, Yuzha, Shishan, Lanzhou, Baita and Zhilin. In the 37th year of the Republic of China, nine towns including Guangfu, Xihua, Dongzhu, Shanqiao, Shihu, Fengqiao, Jinshan, Hengtang, Mudu and two townships of Xiangshan and Xukou were incorporated into Wuxi district.
After liberation in 1949, the people's Government of Mudu district was established, with jurisdiction over Mudu, Fengqiao, Hengtang, Jinshan, Shanqiao, Guangfu, Dongzhu, Xihua and three townships of Shihu, Xukou and Xiangshan, totaling 50.
In 1950, the districts and townships were adjusted. Mudu district had jurisdiction over Mudu and Shanqiao towns, and 12 townships including Weihu, Xukou, Gusu, Xitang, Tianchi, Cangshu, Jiaoshan, Shicheng, Qingming, Jinshan, Xinhua and Xiangshan.
At the end of 1950, it was further divided into Mudu and Shanqiao towns and Jinshan, Jiaoshan, Cangshu, Xiangshan, Weihu, Qingming, Gusu, Xinhua, Shicheng, Qizi, Xukou and Tianchi 12 townships. There are 111 administrative villages and 864 administrative groups. Mudu town set up four street groups, and later transformed into a residents committee.
In 1955, there were 129 primary agricultural production cooperatives in Jinshan, Gusu, Xinhua, Shicheng and Qizi townships. In 1957, 13 senior agricultural production cooperatives were established, and on this basis, the districts were withdrawn and the townships merged. In 1958, Jinshan people's commune was established with 15 production teams. At one time, it was changed to 15 battalions and 80 companies. At the end of 1959, 21 production brigades and 229 production brigades were restored. In 1964, it was adjusted to 20 production teams and 223 production teams. In April 1993, Xinglong, Mingxing, Shicheng and Xinsheng were assigned to Suzhou New District. At the end of 1996, the town had one sub district office, 13 neighborhood committees, 18 administrative villages and 198 villager groups.
At the end of 2003, the administrative villages (neighborhood committees) were merged, and the town had one sub district office, six administrative villages and seven communities.
In September 2006, the establishment of book collection town was cancelled, and the original book collection town was assigned to Mudu Town, and the book collection office of Mudu town was set up. Mudu town has one office (Library Office) and nine administrative villages (Tianping village, Lingyan village, xikuatang village, Gusu village, Jinshan Village, Yaofeng village, Wufeng village, shanrenqiao village and Tianchi Village). Eight community neighborhood committees (Xiangxi community, Tongchun neighborhood committee, Cuifang community, Xujiang community, Xiatang community, Baita community, Huayuan community, library community).
