As the seat of the county people's government, Tianning town is the political, economic and cultural center of the county. The town governs 19 administrative villages with a total land area of 63.4 square kilometers and a total population of 45612.

Tianning town is only 50 kilometers away from the provincial capital, belonging to Taiyuan economic radiation zone. It is the east gate of Luliang, the intersection of Taiqi and Xiafen expressways and 307 National Highway, and the Taiyuan Zhongyin railway passing through. It has become an important logistics distribution center of the whole county. According to the location, human and natural characteristics, the orientation of Tianning town is industry-oriented, with business and tourism characteristics. In 2019, there are 331 industrial enterprises, 260 commercial stalls and nearly 12191 employees in the town, forming a complete enterprise group with casting, smelting, glass products, coal and coke, mining and other categories. Among them, casting and machining are the traditional industries of Tianning Town, enjoying the reputation of "the hometown of casting in North China".
