Gaoqiao Town is named after the construction of a 30 meter high stone arch bridge in March of the second year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty. It is located in the southwest of Emeishan City, at the foot of Mount Emei, a world-famous Buddhist tourist resort, 12 kilometers away from the urban area. It covers an area of 72.92 square kilometers, with a cultivated area of 12429 mu, known as "three mountains, two hills and one flat dam". The town governs 14 administrative villages with a total population of 17520, including 14488 in agriculture and 5000 in market towns.

On December 13, 2019, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved Leshan City to adjust the administrative divisions of 8 counties (cities, districts) including Shizhong District (Chuanfu Civil Affairs [2019] No. 20): Shaxi township was abolished and its administrative area was put under the jurisdiction of Gaoqiao Town, and Gaoqiao Town was located at No. 344, Hongyan road.

Huangmaowei Hydropower Station invested 500000 yuan to start construction; Gaoqiao gas station invested 2 million yuan to complete reconstruction and expansion; Gaoqiao phosphate fertilizer plant invested 4 million yuan to build No. 4 and No. 5 ironmaking furnaces; one clay processing enterprise and two stone powder processing enterprises were newly built; 11 clay mines, 5 limestone mines and 2 dolomite mines were newly cultivated; 3 million yuan was invested in coal mine technical transformation, with an annual coal production of 215000 tons. The total number of enterprises in the town is 39, including one limited liability company and 582 individual businesses, including one enterprise with a scale of more than 5 million yuan and 10 enterprises with a scale of more than 1 million yuan. There are 103 national roads running through the town from north to west, with a total mileage of 75 km, including 63 km of town, village and group three-level roads, achieving the goal of connecting villages with roads and organic farming roads.

Our town has three major resource advantages. First, it has rich mineral resources. The town has 150 million cubic meters of granite reserves, 120 million tons of potash feldspar reserves, as well as limestone, dolomite, silica sand, coal and other minerals with large reserves and high quality. Second, it is rich in forest resources. The forest area of the town is 58000 mu, including 29000 mu of ecological high-yield timber commercial forest and 17000 mu of ecological public welfare forest. Third, it is rich in water resources. The reserve water can generate 5.5 million kilowatts of electricity from power stations, supply 8000 mu of farmland irrigation water, 800 tons of aquaculture water, and provide abundant water sources for industrial production.

Our town has a water plant with daily water supply of 300 tons, and two power stations with annual power generation of 5.5 million kilowatts. In the first half of 2003, another 5.3 million yuan was introduced to build three new power stations. There are one junior high school, one central primary school, four kindergartens and 10 village primary schools, with a total of more than 2300 students. There are also hospitals, posts and telecommunications, cultural stations, radio and television stations and other facilities.
