Gaochuan township is located in the southeast of Xixiang County. The town government is 73 kilometers away from the county. It borders Cha town in the north, majiawan town in the East, WULIBA town in the South and Shiquan County in the West.

Xiagaochuan market town is the seat of the town government and the political, economic and cultural center of Gaochuan. The transportation is convenient, the power supply and communication are developed, and the infrastructure is perfect. The town covers an area of 158.7 square kilometers, with a total cultivated area of 28395 mu (7950 mu of paddy field and 20445 mu of dry slope land) and a per capita cultivated area of 1.61 mu.
