History and culture
Lijia village site
Lijia village site is located in Heping Village, Chengguan Town, 2km southwest of Xixiang County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province. It is the first platform on the South Bank of Muma river. In 1958, when the peasants were digging deep into the land, they found some ancient artifacts, which were verified to be prehistoric cultural relics by archaeological units.
Based on the analysis of the artifacts excavated from the lijiacun site and the charcoal ash, archaeologists believe that the site is more than 7000 years ago, in the matriarchal clan stage, belonging to the early Neolithic culture. Xia Nai, an archeological authority, once wrote that "Lijia village culture is a reliable clue to explore the predecessor of Yangshao culture". Wei Jingwu, an archaeologist, believes that "Lijia village culture is the link between the early culture of the Yellow River and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in the new era". Before the discovery of lijiacun cultural site, the Neolithic culture in China only belonged to the middle and late Yangshao culture and Longshan culture, and the early culture was still a missing link. Therefore, the first annual meeting of the Chinese society of archaeology officially named Lijia village in Xixiang as "Lijia village culture", which is a symbol of the early Neolithic culture in China.
On May 25, 2006, as an ancient Neolithic site, lijiacun site was approved by the State Council to be listed in the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
