Tianshui Economic and Technological Development Zone was established in 1992 with the approval of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, formerly known as Beidao business and Tourism Development Zone. In 1994, it was approved as a provincial Development Zone by the people's Government of Gansu Province. On May 20, 2010, Tianshui Economic Development Zone was successfully promoted to the national level and named "Tianshui Economic and Technological Development Zone".

Tianshui is a city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province. Located in the southeast of Gansu Province, is located in Liupan Mountain, Longzhong Loess Plateau and Qinling Mountain junction, across the Yangtze River, Yellow River two major water systems. Qinling Mountains in the west of Tianshui is the watershed. The annual average precipitation is 574mm, which gradually decreases from southeast to northwest. The rainfall in the central and eastern mountainous areas is more than 600 mm, and that in the northern part of Weihe River is less than 500 mm. The average annual sunshine duration is 2100 hours, which is slightly higher in Weibei than in Guanshan Mountain Area and Weihe valley. The sunshine percentage is 46-50%. Spring and summer account for 26.6% and 30.6% of the annual sunshine respectively, and winter 22.6%. There is no severe cold in winter, no severe heat in summer, rapid warming in spring and continuous rain in autumn. Topographical features
Tianshui, where the development zone is located, has many mountains, high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with an altitude of 1000-2100 meters. Tianyeliang, the highest peak, is 3120 meters high; Niubei village, the lowest point, is 760 meters above sea level. Tianshui landform has obvious regional differentiation. The eastern and southern parts are uplifted due to the folds of ancient strata, forming mountainous landforms. Due to geological subsidence and red and loess layer deposition in the north, loess layer deposition and loess hilly landform are formed. The Weihe graben was formed in a small part of the central area due to the fracture of the latitudinal structural belt. The valley landform of Weihe River was formed by the Quaternary river division and erosion accumulation.
In the north is the loess hilly gully region. The Weihe River and its tributaries run through it, forming basins and valley terraces with wide valleys and canyons. In river and valley area, the soil is alluvial soil and meadow soil formed by impact and proluvial material. After reclamation, cultivation and maturation, the cultivated soil mainly consists of yellow loam soil and black loam soil. Deep soil layer, open Highlands, is the main grain, oil, vegetables, fruit production area. Qinling Mountains and Guanshan mountains are located in the Middle East. The northern area is the Weihe River basin with the water content of the Yellow River, covering an area of 11673 square kilometers, accounting for 81.49% of the total area of the city. The southern area is the Jialing River basin with the water content of the Yangtze River, covering an area of 2652 square kilometers, accounting for 18.51% of the total area of the city.

There are 749 industrial enterprises in the Development Zone, forming a regional industrial system with processing and manufacturing industry as the main body, electronic and electrical appliances, machinery manufacturing, light industry and textile as the leading industry, food, building materials, chemical industry, metallurgy, leather, tobacco, plastic and other industries competing for development, more categories, better technical equipment, and certain strength and characteristics.
