Yaodu town

Yaodu Town, Chengguan Town, Dongzhi County, Anhui Province, is the political, economic, cultural, educational and transportation center of Dongzhi County. The administrative level is vice county level, which is a key town in China. Yaodu town is located in the hinterland of Dongzhi County, with hilly terrain. It is adjacent to Gegong town and Yanghu town in the East, Xiangyu town and Dongliu town in the west, and Zhangxi town in the north. It is a subtropical monsoon climate zone with short spring and autumn, long summer and winter, and abundant rainfall. As of 2017, the administrative area of Yaodu town is 41763 hectares, with a permanent population of 108759, governing 30 administrative villages and 8 communities.

Emperor Shun devoted himself to farming here. Emperor Yao heard of his talents and traveled thousands of miles across the river, hence the name "Yaodu". Modern archaeology shows that this place is one of the origins of ancient human beings. The "Dongzhi people" as famous as Zhoukoudian people in Beijing have been unearthed. It has been an important town in the south of the Yangtze River since ancient times. Zhou Fu, governor of the two rivers in the late Qing Dynasty, and Zhou Xuexi, a modern industrialist, were all from Meicheng, Yaodu town. Famous poets Tao Yuanming and Mei Yaochen, Neo Confucianism Zhu Xi, monk Zhinan and other scholars have visited this place one after another“ The eternal quatrains of "wet apricot flowers, not cold willow wind" come from this.

According to the master plan of Dongzhi County (2010-2030), the construction of Dongzhi County will implement the integration of Yaodu and Dongliu. Start the integration of Yao and Dong, accelerate the formation of integration of Yao and Dong, improve the functions of the main urban area with high standards, develop Shuncheng new area with high quality, and plan Dongliu port area from a high starting point. In 2019, the fiscal revenue of the whole town will reach 332 million yuan.

Historical evolution

It was changed into Dongfanghong people's commune in 1969.

Yaodu town was established in 1972 under the jurisdiction of Yaodu District.

In 1985, it was promoted from township level town to county level town. In 1992, Xucun Township and Liangtian Township were incorporated into Yaodu Town, governing 21 villages and 6 neighborhood committees. In 1995, Liangtian township was separated out, with jurisdiction over 14 administrative villages and 6 neighborhood committees.

In 2001, Liangtian township was incorporated into Yaodu town again. In 2002, Meilin, Laojie, Jiande, Lanxi, Yaocheng and Qiupu communities were established; in July 2005, Yaohe community was established; in September 2009, Yaohe neighborhood committee system was restored;

In April 2005, Tuanjie and Hexi villages were changed into neighborhood committee system; in February 2007, Chaqiao Township and Jianxin Township were incorporated into Yaodu town.

In August 2009, tuanjieju and Jiande community merged to form tuanjieju community, Lanxi community and Yaocheng community merged to form xinlanxi community, Hexi community was changed to Hexi community, and Yaoshun community was established on October 16, 2009.

According to the records of Jiande county annals, "there was a river in the east of the city, and there was a ferry in the old city. Yao came here on a tour to the south." Emperor Shun ploughed here, and Emperor Yao heard of Qixian. He traveled thousands of miles to visit Xian and crossed the river, so it was named Yaodu.

Fossil resources

In August 2006, a large number of animal fossils were excavated from Hualong cave in Yaodu Town, and more than 60000 pieces have been sorted out, involving more than ten species of animals, including giant panda, Oriental Saber Toothed elephant, buffalo, deer, tapir, brown bear, rhinoceros, mouse and other rodents and insectivores, as well as two unidentified animal fossils.
