Muwang town belongs to Zhen'an County, Shangluo City, Shaanxi Province. It is located in the southwest of Zhenan County, bordering Daren town in the East, Zhongyuan town in Hanbin District of Ankang City in the south, Taishanmiao town in Ningshan County of Ankang City in the west, and Yangsi town and Chaiping town in the north. The total area is 440.22 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
It is said that King Mu of Zhou stayed here, so it is called muwangping. At the end of Ming Dynasty, Li Kui's army and Li Zicheng's army called themselves the devil. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was renamed muwangping because of its dense forest.
From the 15th year of Chenghua in Ming Dynasty (1479) to the 24th year of Qianlong in Qing Dynasty (1759), it belongs to dongyijia, donganli County, and the last year of Guangxu.
In 1933, it was divided into three parts.
In November 1949, Zhenping township was established.
In 1958, it was changed into Zhenping management area.
In August 1961, it was changed into Zhenping commune.
In 1984, Zhenping township was restored.
In May 1997, Zhenping Township, Lizha Township and Chaoyang Township were abolished and Muwang town was merged.
