History and culture
Shangluo cliff tombs
Shangluo city is located at the south foot of the eastern Qinling Mountains in the southeast of Shaanxi Province, which belongs to the middle and upper reaches of Danjiang River of Hanjiang River System in the Yangtze River Basin. The cliff tombs here, centered on the upper reaches of Danjiang River, gradually spread to the north and South regions, and showed a gradually decreasing distribution.
On a cliff in Ganhe village, Yecun Town, Shangluo City, more than 20 meters above the ground, there are more than ten caves in an orderly arrangement. These caves are regular rectangles, more than two meters high, and the area ranges from a few square meters to tens of square meters. Most of them have no remains due to excavation.
Since 2003, Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology and Shangluo museum have carried out field investigation on Shangluo cliff tombs. A total of 722 cliff tombs and 3936 cliff tombs were found. According to Wang Changfu, these cliff tombs are generally hidden and difficult to find. On one side of the cliff, there are several, or more than a dozen together. There are also 50 or 60 cliff tombs. In addition, a considerable number of cliff tombs have been excavated at the top of high mountains, many of which are close to the peak of Qinling Mountains. Among them, a large number of cliff tombs are generally excavated on the surface of large-area cliff, and the excavation sequence is from top to bottom layer by layer. These cliff tombs can be divided into single room, double room, three room, multi room and cliff cave brick room tombs. Most of the indoor walls have niches, or the positions on both sides of the tomb entrance are equipped with stoves, wells and other burial facilities. In the excavated cliff Tomb of Wangjiazhuang, Fushui Town, Shangnan County, unearthed Han Dynasty glazed pottery pots, glazed pottery tripods, pottery stoves, pottery warehouses, pottery kettles, pottery pots, copper axles, copper basins, Che Pang, copper basins, and "Wu Zhu" coins. In the explored cliff tombs, the inscription of the year of Yonghe (125-144) in Han Dynasty was found. It can be judged that the earliest time of these cliff tombs was about 1800 years ago in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. They went through the Jin Dynasty, the southern and Northern Dynasties, and continued until the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
On May 3, 2013, shangluoya tombs were listed as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.
