Historical evolution
From the first year of the Republic of China (1912) to the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), today's borough belongs to wulilian. In 1927, bolao township was established. after liberation, in September 1957, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. Seven small townships, including bolao, dengyang and Xuelong, were merged into bolao Township, which was located in bolao polder. In August 1958, the Shrike people's commune was established. In September 1984, the people's commune was abolished and renamed "bolao township". on January 1, 1994, the township was withdrawn and renamed as bolao town.

Before liberation, there were only three streets about 100 meters in length and 3-5 meters in width. The houses were brick and wood structure bungalows without any public facilities. Before liberation, the folk cultural activities in Palau mainly included lion dance, dragon dance, folk song singing and tea picking, which were generally held during festivals. In the Qing Dynasty, there was a post road from bolao to Lingshan County (Lingbo Road). In 2002, Qinzhou Pubei class II highway was completed. The highway entered the county from Wuli and passed through the town through bolao. the external traffic of Palau town mainly depends on highways, and there are provincial highway s326 and county highway X323 crossing the town.
