Historical evolution

In September 1935, it belonged to eight districts of Zichang County.

In the spring of 1936, it belonged to four districts.

In September 1937, the four districts were assigned to Ansai County, under which Zhenwudong township was set up.

In 1941, Zhenwudong township was changed to Zhenwudong city.

In March 1956, the four districts were abolished and Zhenwudong city was changed into a township directly under the county.

In September 1958, Hongguang commune was established; in December of the same year, it was incorporated into Zichang County and renamed Zhenwudong commune.

In September 1961, it was restored to Ansai County.

In September 1983, it was renamed Zhenwudong town.
