Xiaguan township is located in the southern mountainous area of Lingqiu County. Its main economy is forestry and animal husbandry, aquaculture and walnut. The transportation and communication conditions of the township are relatively convenient. Regional overview

Xiaguan township is located in the southern mountainous area of Lingqiu County, Datong City, Shanxi Province, bordering Fuping County, Hebei Province in the south, with a total area of 266 square kilometers, accounting for about one tenth of the county's area. The territory of ravines, surrounded by mountains, large and small rivers mixed into a network, the largest Xiaguan River from east to southwest, into Hebei. The climate of the township is mild, with an average altitude of 750 meters and an annual average temperature of 9.9 ℃. The annual average sunshine is 2829.4 hours, the frost free period is 180 days, and the average annual precipitation is 550 mm. The township governs 14 administrative villages and 56 natural villages, with a permanent population of 5825 (in 2017), and the township government is located in Xiaguan village. The grain producing areas of the township are mainly concentrated in the six villages in the East, with a cultivated area of 11205 mu. The main crops are corn, potato and millet. The produced Chinese cabbage has the characteristics of less gluten, sweet taste and soft mouth. It is a traditional variety of vegetables in the township.

Regional transportation

The transportation and communication conditions of the township are relatively convenient. There are 12 kilometers of county and township roads connecting with 108 National Highway, and 7 kilometers of provincial roads connecting with Fuping County of Hebei Province. There are more than 10 large and medium-sized buses between Datong, Lingqiu and Xiaguan every day. In terms of communication, the program-controlled telephone has expanded to 11 villages, and China Mobile and China Unicom have also expanded their business in the township.

Regional resources

The vast area of jurisdiction provides convenient conditions for forestry, animal husbandry and aquaculture. At present, there are 110000 Mu barren hills and slopes in the township, and 96300 Mu forest area. The main forest industries include wood, walnut, pepper, peach, etc. The walnut and Zanthoxylum bungeanum produced here have become the best products for nutrition and health care, seasoning and gifts to relatives and friends. Aquaculture of aquatic products has initially formed a pilot project focusing on Nanpu and xieziping turtle culture, and will further expand the scale of aquaculture. The main livestock products are cattle, Qingbei goat, etc. In particular, the number of Qingbei goats has reached more than 40000. The township is rich in mineral resources, mainly including gold, silver, copper, iron, mica, crystal stone, feldspar, granite, quartzite and more than 10 varieties. At present, the main products developed are iron ore processing and asbestos products.

Efforts should be made to make walnut industry bigger and stronger. More than 41000 walnut trees with an area of 1200 Mu were newly planted in Xiaguan river area. There are 21000 walnut trees in the township, with an annual output of about 150000 kg and an income of more than 3.6 million yuan.

Xiaguan township has a long history of planting walnuts, known as the "hometown of walnuts". The walnuts produced in Xiaguan township are large, thin skinned, plump and of excellent quality. It is one of the three main walnut producing areas in Lingqiu. In recent years, the township takes the development of walnut trees as a main content for farmers to get rid of poverty and increase their income. The township has increased capital investment, and introduced new walnut varieties Jinlong No.1 and Jinlong No.2, which are close planting early and late eating. They are widely planted in the township. Through 3-5 years of development, the walnut trees in the township will develop to 10000 mu, with 30 walnut trees per capita and 30 walnut trees per capita The income increased by 8000 yuan. In order to establish Xiaguan walnut brand and enhance its popularity, the township will hold the second green walnut picking Festival on September 3 to promote the construction of walnut base and drive the development of the original eco-tourism industry of Jiling Grand Canyon.

Old revolutionary base areas

Xiaguan is an old revolutionary base area. The people of the whole countryside made great sacrifices for the victory of the war of resistance against Japan and the war of liberation. Norman Bethune, a famous international communist fighter, founded the "Special Surgery Hospital" in Yangzhuang village. The 358 and 359 brigades of the Eighth Route Army, the Yanbei prefectural Party committee and the Lingqiu County Party committee also fought and worked here. The main landscapes include special surgery hospital, Bethune's former residence, Zen temple, Yaowang temple, longtanghui waterfall group, etc.
