Gaonan Town, subordinate to Chengkou County of Chongqing, is located in the northwest of Chengkou County, bordering on Longtian Township in the East, Bashan town in the south, zuolan Township in the west, Ziyang County in Shaanxi Province in the north. It is 57 kilometers away from the residence of Chengkou county government, with a total area of 112.19 square kilometers.
In the reign of Daoguang in Qing Dynasty, Gaonan town was under the category of Jiubao Liujia; in 2014, it was changed from Gaonan township to Gaonan town. By the end of 2018, the registered residence population of Gao Nan Town was 7139. As of June 2020, Gaonan town has one community and five administrative villages, and the people's Government of Gaonan town is located in Daheba community.

History of construction
During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to the category of nine guarantees and six Jia.
In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), it belonged to the Rangao Township regiment. In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), it belonged to the three districts of Rangao united insurance. In 1940, it was under the jurisdiction of PingGao township. In 1941, it belonged to Rangao township. In 1947, it belonged to Renhe township of Yiqu.
In 1949, it belongs to four districts and township.
In August 1952, it belonged to Renhe township of the second district.
In March 1953, it became an independent Township in the name of Gao Nan.
In February 1954, Gaonan township was divided into nangui Township and Gaozhuang township.
In November 1956, two small townships of nangui and Gaozhuang were merged into Gaonan township.
In September 1958, Gaonan township was changed into Gaonan commune.
In October 1984, Gaonan commune was changed into Gaonan township.
In 2014, Gaonan township was changed from township to town.
