The origin of place names
Bidenspilosa Linn is called "gogtwaanc" (Luowan) and banyan is called "faixwaanc" (Guowan) in local Buyi language. There are obvious differences in the tone values of the two plants in Buyi language. But for a long time, many topographers are not proficient in Buyi language because Buyi people have no written language, so it is difficult to accurately record the place names of minority villages with Chinese characters. After a long period of exploration, they used phonology and exegesis to record place names. Even so, mistakes and deviations are inevitable.
The reporter speculated that the best way for local chroniclers to learn Buyi first, then use Chinese macro, and record it as "Luowan" or "Guowan" in local chronicles in a compromise way. According to the established custom, today's name of "Luowan" (Bidens bipinnata) or "Guowan" (Ficus macrophylla) has been inherited. Therefore, we can understand Luowan township as a place with "lush grass and ancient trees".
