Gongtan Town, subordinate to Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County of Chongqing, is located in the west of Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, bordering Tianguan Township and Miaoxi Township in the East, Liangbi Township in the south, Hongdu town in Yanhe County of Guizhou Province in the west, and Shangan Township in Pengshui County in the North, with a total area of 133 square kilometers.
Gongtan is an ancient town with a history of one thousand years. It flourished in Tang and Ming Dynasties. It is the material distribution center of Chongqing, Sichuan, Hunan and Guizhou, so it is also known as "qiangongtan". In August 2001, some villages in gongtan Township, Yanyan Township and Longtan Township were merged into gongtan town. History of construction
In 223, the first year of Shu Jianxing in the Three Kingdoms, Shu Han set up Fu County in today's gongtan, which belongs to Fuling county.
In 619, it was renamed Hongdu county.

In June 1952, gongtan town was changed into gongtan township.
In August 1958, gongtan township was changed into gongtan commune.
In 1983, gongtan commune was changed into gongtan township.
In August 2001, some villages in gongtan Township, Yanyan Township and Longtan Township were merged into gongtan town.
