Hehuashan town is named after a lotus pond in the temple of hehuashan built in the middle of Qing Dynasty. In 1958, hehuashan town was incorporated into Changling commune. In July 1961, hehuashan commune was established by Changling commune. In September 1983, hehuashan commune was transformed into a township. In January 1985, hehuashan township was transformed into a town. As of June 2020, hehuashan town has a total of 6 administrative villages.
