History and culture
History of Jieshi
In the 22nd year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1389), in order to resist the invasion of Japanese pirates along the southeast coast, the imperial court formally established Jieshi Wei (hence the name of Jieshi). In the 35th year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty (1557), the people living in shiqiaochang outside the west gate of Weicheng were often burned and plundered by Japanese pirates, and the country was disturbed. Zhang Jishi, the magistrate of Haifeng County, personally visited Jieshi to mobilize the masses to build the city to resist the Japanese, and built the Shiqiao Earth City. Therefore, there were two cities in Jieshi of Ming Dynasty: the garrison of Weicheng and the residents of the Earth City.
In the first month of the fifth year of Shunzhi (1648), Su Cheng died of serious illness. Jieshiwei's general officer was taken over by Su Li, the Deputy General of the rebel leader. In June of the twelfth year of Shunzhi (1655), he ordered the coastal provinces to "enter the sea without permission, and the violators would set up a heavy code". In the eighteenth year of Shunzhi (1661), he forced the coastal residents of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Shandong to move within 30 to 50 Li to set up border defense In 1664, the Jieshi general Suli launched an army to fight against the Qing Dynasty, and the people in eastern Guangdong responded one after another. As the gateway of Huizhou Prefecture and Chaozhou Prefecture, its coastal defense position was very important and its strategic position could not be replaced. So in 1669, a general was sent to reset jieshiwei and rebuild jieshixinweicheng to the west of the original site. In June 1836, on the eve of the first Opium War, Lin Zexu, the imperial envoy, mobilized jieshiwei navy to set up defense at Zhujiangkou to repel the British in chuanbiyang Lin Zexu personally inscribed the plaque of "shuide primate" in Yuanshan temple, which means commending Jieshi Navy's achievements.
Shanwei Fishing Song
Shanwei Fishing Song is a folk song sung by fishermen in the coastal area of Shanwei City in eastern Guangdong Province. Local fishermen are usually divided into land fishermen and sea fishermen, and sea fishermen are also divided into "tugboat" fishermen and "Ou boat" fishermen. The traditional Shanwei fishing songs refer to the songs sung by Ou boat fishermen. Ou boat fishermen are commonly known as "Danmin", so the fishing songs are also called "dange". They are mainly distributed in Xingang, Jiesheng and Magong in Shanwei City, Houmen and Xiaomo in Haifeng County, Jiazi and Jieshi in Lufeng City. Their origins can be traced back to the dans in song and Yuan Dynasties.
Wood carving
Jieshi woodcarving is mainly used for the decoration of building components, furniture, artifact, ornamental ornaments and so on. In the process of development, it absorbed the characteristics of folk art such as stone carving, painting, clay sculpture and drama in hailufeng area, forming a unique artistic style of Jieshi wood carving. When Jieshi woodcarving began is impossible to verify.
dialect
Chaoshan dialect (including hailufeng dialect) used to be called "Fulao dialect" or "Heluo dialect" by other dialect areas. Now it is called Chaoshan dialect, belonging to the Minnan language family. The so-called "Heluo dialect" is because the people who speak this dialect are the immigrants from Luoshui, Henan Province who spoke the ancient sounds of the Central Plains and brought them to Fujian in the south, and then moved to eastern Guangdong to settle down. Therefore, people in other dialect areas call this kind of immigrants "Heluo people", and their dialect is "Heluo dialect".

With Yuanshan temple as the center, Yuanshan temple was built in 1127, the first year of Jianyan in Southern Song Dynasty, and is the religious belief center at home and abroad in Chaoshan area. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the location of Xuanwu mountain was closely related to the history of Jieshi ancient Wei City, which had an important strategic position. In November 2007, Shanwei Xuanwu mountain tourist area was approved as "national AAAA tourist attraction" by the National Tourism Administration.
