Historical evolution

Wangpi town is named after its residence two kilometers south of wangpi village. In the early days of the people's Republic of China, it was under the jurisdiction of the first district of Jinxiang County. In April 1956, Jinxiang and Yutai counties merged and became Chengguan District. In March 1958, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. A part of Chengguan District was set up as Kangqiao Township, which got its name because the township organ was stationed in Kangqiao.
