Historical evolution
The origin of place names
Shuangshui town in Xinhui is located on the Bank of Yinzhou lake. The name of Shuangshui in Xinhui was originally written as "Longshui" in Ming and Qing Dynasties. "Long" is a polysemous and polysyllabic character, one is "long" (L ó ng); the other is "Shuang" (Shu ā ng). Xinhua Dictionary notes: "place name, in Xinhui County, Guangdong Province." It can be seen that Xinhui "long water" reads "double water". "Long water" is a place name for taking water. Long water is one of the ancient waterways in Shuangshui town. According to the local records of Xinhui in the 34th year of Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty, "long water originates from the city of long water, and its bamboo peak stretches to the east of the mountains in the south. It flows to the South Bank of the county and intersects with Jiuqu water. It flows eastward to the north bank and is divided into two branches. The southeast flows into the Yinzhou Lake through shuikouxun; the Northeast flows into the Yinzhou Lake through zhongzhaitang and other branches of jiuqushui; the East flows into the Yinzhou Lake through shuikouxu. " Shuikou market is now Shuangshui market. It is named because it is located at the outlet of the river where the long water flows to Yinzhou lake. Although the long water has been diverted by the river for a hundred years, according to the above records, compared with the current river course, "long water" is still clear.
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were townships, capitals (squares), maps and Jias in the administrative divisions. "Longshui" was one of more than ten "capitals" in Xinhui county. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1662-1722), the county was divided into 13 capitals, of which "Longshui" was one. It governed 12 Tu and 105 villages, including the villages to the north of chumujiang River and Nan'an River in Shuangshui Town, and the administrative area of Yamen town. According to Xinhui local records in 1908, the county was divided into 15 capitals. At that time, the administrative area of "Longshui" remained unchanged. Because of the complex strokes and special pronunciation of the place name, the word "long" is often mispronounced as "Long Shui" by outsiders. With the establishment of districts and townships in the Republic of China, it was later written as "Shuangshui". After reading the Xinhui wake-up newspaper in 1913, the words "Shuangshui", "shuangshuixu", "shuangshuikou", "shuangshuikou" can be seen everywhere.
As a place name, "long water" was continued in the period of the Republic of China and even after 1949. For example, the map of Xinhui County in the guide to Jingtang library published in 1933 and the map of Xinhui published in 1961 can still be seen in this way.

In September 1955, the seventh district was renamed Shuangshui District, and the Sixth District was renamed Luokeng district.
In 1958, Shuangshui divided into four townships: Shuangshui, Jibei, Tianting and Shagang. Xiaogangda Township belongs to Luokeng District, and Shalu village belongs to dongnanda Township in Yaxi district. It was changed into Shuangshui people's commune in October 1958.
In 1961, Xiaogang was separated from Luokeng commune to establish Xiaogang commune.
