Longdu town is located in the northwest of Shantou City. It is 15km away from Chaozhou City and 20km away from Shantou City. It has a flat terrain with an area of 33.84km2 (in 2017). It has 14 village committees, 1 neighborhood committee, 46 economic associations, a population of 75508 (in 2017), and nearly 120000 overseas Chinese. Chaoshan is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. Historically, it was an important commodity distribution center of Chaocheng and Rao counties. In 2003, it was listed as the central town of Guangdong Province.

History of construction
Longdu town is also known as Longdu. Its administrative setting, region, name and situation have changed with the history. Longdu town was an early land forming area, about 4300-2500 years ago. It was inhabited as far as the Tang Dynasty, and was dominated by fishing and farming. At that time, it belonged to Haiyang County, which was an early developed area for Chenghai county. During the reign of the Song Dynasty (976-984 AD), Longdu was a capital of Haiyang County in Chaozhou, known as "Longyan City", which has a history of thousands of years.
In 1477, the capital of Longyan city belonged to Raoping County, which was still called the capital of Longyan city. In 1740, it was called the capital of Longyan city. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Dianshi market had become the commodity distribution center of Chaocheng and Rao counties. At that time, Longdu merchants gathered, the market was active, the economy was prosperous, and became an important pillar of Raoping County's economy. Therefore, there was a saying that "no prosperity, no prosperity". When Longyan city was established, the capital area included the whole territory of Lianhua town and houyangdi village of phosphorus town in Chao'an county. Longdu town is located in the Hanjiang Delta, which was formed by the alternation of Quaternary Holocene fluvial delta alluvial deposits and coastal tidal deposits. The terrain is mainly plain, low in the middle and high around. The hills in the East, generally called Xiling mountain, are composed of exposed granite formed in the late Yanshanian movement. The middle, West, South and North are alluvial plains.
The average elevation of the whole town (Yellow Sea elevation) is 5 meters, and that of Dianshi is 5.4 meters. The buried depth of groundwater is generally 1-1.5m. The iron content of groundwater is too high to drink.

Longdu town belongs to subtropical monsoon climate. The climate characteristics of four seasons are as follows: high temperature and rainy, rainy and hot in the same season, short hot period, rainfall mainly concentrated in spring and summer, long frost free period and indistinct four seasons. The annual average sunshine hours is 2217.7 hours, the annual average temperature is between 21 ℃ and 22 ℃, the highest temperature is between July and August, 28 ℃, and the lowest temperature is between January and February, 11 ℃ and 12 ℃. The extreme maximum temperature reached 37.3 ℃ on August 16, 1953, and the extreme minimum temperature reached – 4 ℃ on January 11, 1955. The frost period is short, appearing in January, and the frost free period is as long as 362 days. The annual dominant wind direction is east wind, and the annual average wind speed is 3.3 m / s. The probability of positive landing of typhoons from the Pacific and South China Sea from May to November is low, but the annual average number of typhoons affected is still 2-3, especially in July and August. The maximum wind speed of Typhoon No. 3 landing from Huilai on July 28, 1968 is 51.2 M / s, and the wind force is above 12.
The rainfall of the town is between the warm and hot areas of Chaoshan Plain, Southeast plain and hilly areas, and the warm and hot areas of central plain and hilly areas. The average annual rainfall is 1674.6 mm. The annual rainfall days are 190 days, mainly concentrated in April to September, accounting for 82% of the annual rainfall. Longdu town is located in the lower reaches of Hanjiang River Delta, surrounded by water on three sides: Dongxi, Beixi and Nanxi.
Dongxi is an ancient channel in the east of Hanjiang River and one of the tributaries of Hanjiang River. It is 19 km long and 500-800 m wide on average. It flows through the southern part of the town. It is the boundary river between Longdu and Jiangdong town of Shanghua and Chao'an counties. The river is curved, the current is fast, the valley is wide and the riverbed is shallow. It is prone to floods in history.
Beixi is one of the tributaries of Hanjiang River in the east of the town. It is also an ancient river course in the east of Hanjiang River, with a total length of about 25 km and a width of 250 m. It is the boundary river between Longdu and Lianhua town. The river section flowing through the town is 6.14 km long, with an average width of only 120-150 M. the river course is narrow and curved.
Nanxi, also known as shaweixi, is one of the three ancient canals in eastern Guangdong. It was excavated by Li Qian, the Yanguan of Song Dynasty, during the period from you to Fu of Yuan Dynasty (1086-1100 A.D.), with a total length of 9.5km and an average width of 220m. It is the natural boundary River between Longdu, Lianxia town and Xinan town. It is also an important waterway between Dongli port and the upper reaches of Hanjiang River in Chaozhou.
Longdu town is low and flat, surrounded by water on three sides, and is threatened by the flood of Hanjiang River and typhoon surge, so flood control is particularly important. There is a threat of flood from April to September every year. The warning water level is 13.5m in Chaoan. The highest water level in history occurred in June 1964. The Chaoan water level is 16.95m. The flood control embankment of the town is 18.36 km, including 8.39 km for Dongxi, 6.99 km for Nanxi and 2.98 km for Beixi. Most of the levees meet the flood control standard of 20-year return period.
Geological conditions
Longduzhen system is formed by the alternation of Cenozoic quaternary Holocene fluvial delta alluvial and coastal tidal sedimentation. The stratum is composed of clay layer, fine sand layer, medium sand layer and sand mud alternating from top to bottom. High compressible silt layer is widely distributed in the lower part of the foundation with poor geology.
Longdu town is located in the south of Hanjiang Delta slight fault depression area, which belongs to the second compound uplift zone of Cathaysian structure. The basic seismic intensity is 8 degrees, which is the key monitoring area of seismic intensity designated by the State Seismological Bureau.

The entrance and exit of Dianshi of Chaofen expressway is located in the center of the town, connecting an Cheng highway and long Zhang highway. The 110kV Transmission Substation in Chenghai District was built in the town, which is connected with the whole province and has sufficient power supply. With the rapid development of radio and television, cable TV network is all over the town.
There are 2 middle schools and 10 primary schools in the town, with 6171 students and 472 in-service teachers.
Economics

In 2003, the GDP of the whole town was 320 million yuan, and the per capita GDP was 4156 yuan, which was in the middle and lower level among the towns (streets).
