Haojiping Yao township is located in the east of Zhongfang County, at the junction of Zhongfang County, Chenxi County and Xupu County. It is a provincial poverty-stricken township. It was established in 1989 with the approval of the provincial Civil Affairs Department and the provincial people's commission. It borders xiaohenglong and Hetian townships in Xupu County in the East, Jinxi Township in Xupu County in the south, Longzhen and Dingjia Township in Xupu County in the west, and shangpuxi and luozishan townships in Chenxi County in the north. The township has poor traffic and information, with an average altitude of about 700 meters, known as the county's "Qinghai Tibet Plateau".
Historical evolution
In ancient times, haojiping Yao nationality was located in Chu, Qianzhong County in Qin, Chenyang and Tancheng County in Han, and Longbiao in Tang. It was the first mile of Shibao Township in Qianyang in the Qing Dynasty, and ZhuoZhi Township in Qianyang in the period of the Republic of China. After the establishment of Huaihua County, it belonged to Wolong Township in the early stage and Jielong Township in the later stage. In 1958, Jielong Township and Ding Township merged to form Jielong people's commune. In 1961, the system was adjusted and haojiping people's commune was established by dividing seven production teams from Jielong people's commune, namely, jidutang, Zhuxi, dongmenkou, Luohong, laotianxi, Sanchaxi and gantianlong. On January 31, 1989, with the approval of the provincial people's government, the haojiping township government of Huaihua City was abolished and the Yao Township People's Government of Huaihua City was established. In October 1998, due to the withdrawal of land and the establishment of a city, it was incorporated into the jurisdiction of Zhongfang County, which is the only ethnic minority Township in Zhongfang county.

With a total area of 67.63 square kilometers (2017), the township has jurisdiction over 7 villages, including jidutang, Zhuxi, dongmenkou, Luohong, laotianxi, Sanchaxi and gantianlong, 72 villager groups, 6147 people (2017), 2342 ethnic minorities, accounting for 46% of the total population of the township. In 2015, Taojiang village was merged into haojiping township. In 2016, three villages including laotianxi village, dongmenkou village and Luohong village were merged. In 2017, haojiping Yao Township covers a total area of 75.05 square kilometers, and now has 6 administrative villages and 81 villager groups.

The mountainous area is more than 80000 mu, the forest coverage rate is more than 80%, the timber volume is 130000 cubic meters, and the cultivated land area is more than 4500 mu, including 3825 mu of paddy field and 625 mu of dry land. Haojiping Yao nationality township is known as the hometown of "big leaf honeysuckle" and "Mountain Cloud grape". The territory is rich in trees, with a forest area of 72600 Mu and a timber stock of 170000 cubic meters. The main tree species are Cunninghamia lanceolata, pine, sandalwood, maple, tung tree, masson pine and more than 20 varieties. The territory has special geological structure and rich underground mineral resources, including stone coal, pyrite, copper, limestone, kaolin, etc.

. The construction of haojiping Xupu xiaohenglong Cross County highway was started, and the cross county highway from haojiping to Jinxi township was successfully opened in March 2004. 62 of the 72 villager groups have opened simple roads, and the traffic network system has been greatly improved.

There are many streams and gullies in the township, and the water resources are extremely rich, which can be used for cascade development of hydropower stations, with an installed capacity of 3000 kW. The disposable income of farmers increases by 7.3%, reaching 620 yuan.

There is a cultural service center and an amateur troupe in the township. The local people are simple and the unique "tea mountain drum" is well-known in surrounding cities and counties. It has applied for the protection project of Huaihua minority folk culture. In January 2004, the documentary "tea mountain drum" won the second prize in Huaihua minority culture festival. There is a middle school and six primary schools for nationalities, with 46 teachers and 578 students. The middle school for Nationalities covers an area of more than 4000 square meters, and 997 square meters of dilapidated buildings were rebuilt in 2004.
