Maiwang town is named because of its name. According to the records of Mianyang county annals, during the Longqing period of the Ming Dynasty (1567 A.D, In 1571, in order to avoid the impact of the Han River, dikes were built on the north and south sides of the river. The north and West ends of the dikes were close to the exit of the niutizhi River into the Han River. The dikes were called "bitouzui". Year after year, the dikes became more prominent. There were not many original residents in the south of the dikes. "Every day, Chaowu enveloped the dikes. Local people superstitiously believed that the dikes were strong, so they named it" maiwangzui ". It was also called" maimangzui " ”In ancient times, the streets here were long and narrow and shaped like wheat awn, so it got its name. It is said that in the Qing Dynasty, a Zhou surnamed Tianguan (Prime Minister) Han / (1 person) chanted a poem: "the small water flows around the autumn waves, and the rejuvenation evokes the female jiao'e, the golden light shines on the ten mile long street, and the peach crane rests on the cypress tree.". It vividly describes the local scene. Maiwang town used to be Mianyang county government in Qing Dynasty, with convenient transportation and gathering merchants, known as "xiaohankou". Later, due to the migration of county government, the Han River moved northward; the South Street was opposite to the Han River, and the North Street was impacted by the water, gradually shrinking, and other reasons, the town's economy declined gradually.
