Historical account
Zhongjiawa, one of the earliest villages in Qingdao, was built in the Ming Dynasty. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, natural villages with surnames of Zhong, Ge, Zhang and Hu were formed. It is said that the Zhong surname of zhongjiawa was also the earliest immigrant from Yunnan. Because the zhongjiawa family came first and had a prosperous population, it was also located in the depression, hence the name zhongjiawa. The place where zhongjiawa began to establish the village is called nanzhongjiawa, which is called "nanzhong" for short. When Germany occupied Qingdao in 1897, more and more farmers moved here. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were only more than 200 households in nanzhongjiawa village. In the 1930s, more and more people moved to nanzhong. In 1932, there were 605 households with 2891 people. On the eve of liberation, there were nearly 3000 households. The original natural village became a residential area. Most of the residents lived in small, dark and humid bungalows, with dirt roads and an open ditch running through them. The living conditions and living environment of the residents were poor. It was a famous shantytown in Qingdao. Since the implementation of demolition and reconstruction of shanty towns in 1998, new residential areas such as dongxizhong garden, Yunxi District and Tiantai sunshine zone have sprung up, covering open ditches, hardening roads, greening buildings and courtyard, and comprehensively improving the living environment.
