The name of Huqiu evolved from Huqiu.
According to folklore, in ancient times, there was a big lake in the area of Huqiu. In a flash flood, the disaster was critical, and the flood was about to overflow Xingren Bay. At this time, the Jade Emperor sent niushen to open the gap in Xingren Bay, so that the flood subsided quickly. But in order to save people, niushen fell into the mud and became a stone ox. Later, in order to commemorate niushen, people built Xingren temple in Xingren Bay, and called the area in Xingren bay "Huqiu". I do not know when, "Huqiu" evolved into "Huqiu", which is still in use today.

Tea specialty
Huang Dan
Huangdan is a famous species of tea, also known as golden osmanthus. It is originated from Huqiu Luoyan. It is another top grade oolong tea with different style from Tieguanyin.
The origin of Huang Dan is said to be: in 1860, a young man named Lin Ziqin married Wang Dan, a woman from Zhuyang village in Xiping. According to local customs, after a month's marriage, the bride returns to her mother's home to "exchange flowers for the moon.". When the bride returns to her husband's home, what her mother's family brings back to her is a "green belt" gift, such as a plant seedling, which symbolizes that it will be handed down from generation to generation and that the children and grandchildren will prosper. Wang's "green belt" consists of two small tea seedlings, which are planted in the garden beside his house. After careful cultivation by his wife, they grow luxuriantly. In the third year, as soon as the Tomb Sweeping Day arrived, the couple picked and made the tea at the right time; after the tea was made, it was brewed without uncovering the Ou cover, which made it fragrant; after uncovering the Ou cover, it made it fragrant. The villagers of zuoshe, a neighbor, came to taste it and cheered repeatedly, calling it "toutianxiang". Year after year, this kind of tea grows more and more. Therefore, tea came from Wang Dan, and the native people used to call it "Wang Dan tea". Because of the homophony of "Wang" and "Huang", "Dan" and "Dan" in Minnan dialect, and the yellow green color and golden water of the tea, "Wang Dan tea" gradually evolved into "Huang Dan tea". In 1871, Luoyan tea merchant Lin Hongde (founder of Jintai tea) sold "Huangdan tea" to Southeast Asian countries. Overseas Chinese scrambled to buy "Huangdan tea", which was in short supply for a time, and "Huangdan tea" became more valuable. After that, Lin Hongde changed his name to "golden osmanthus" according to the color of tea like "golden osmanthus" and strange fragrance like "osmanthus".
The "noble spirit" of golden osmanthus is mainly shown in the "two wonders in the morning". Early in the morning, that is, germination, acquisition and listing. Huangdan spring tea is generally picked in the middle of April, more than 10 days earlier than other varieties and nearly 20 days earlier than Tieguanyin. Two strange, namely the appearance "yellow, uniform, fine", endoplasmic "fragrant, strange, fresh". The string is tight, thin and round, and the color is golden. The fragrance is elegant and fresh, with the fragrance of Osmanthus fragrans. The bottom of the leaves is "green belly with red edge". It is soft and bright. It is known as "you know the Yellow Dan when you smell the fragrance". Therefore, it has the reputation of "first smell the natural fragrance before you taste the innocence". After drinking, full of body fluid, aftertaste, refreshing, relaxed and happy. Golden osmanthus with its unique character and early listing advantages, won the market, favored. In January 1982, the super golden osmanthus produced by Anxi tea factory was rated as high-quality product by the Ministry of Commerce; in 1985, the golden osmanthus was rated as China's famous tea by the Ministry of agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery and China tea society, and won the "golden cup award"; in 1986, it was awarded the title of national famous tea by the Ministry of Commerce; in 1988, the "Fengshan" brand super golden osmanthus won the silver award of the first China Food Expo. In recent years, Anxi has held tea king competitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Hong Kong and other places. The golden osmanthus produced in Huqiu town has won the first and second prizes.
Bergamot
Bergamot, also known as citron species, originated from Huqiu Jinbang qihuyan.
The origin of bergamot is said to be: around the 29th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1690), an old monk riding on Huyan grafted tea branches on citron to become a kind of bergamot. Because the leaves are as big as palm, the leaf surface is twisted and uneven, the mesophyll is thick, and the leaf quality is soft, which is similar to citron leaves, so it is also called citron species. Bergamot tea has wide adaptability, strong resistance, less diseases and insect pests, high yield and quality. Oolong tea is produced in a unique style with fat and strong strips, high aroma and mellow taste; black tea is produced in a good quality with thick red soup and bright red leaves. In 1986, bergamot tea was selected as an improved variety of tea in Fujian Province. The tea was introduced into Yongchun County in large quantities, and became a good variety in charge of the family. There are also a few introduced species in central and eastern Fujian.
Tea seed base
Huqiu is recognized as Quanzhou City tea breeding base. Tea growers adopt the advanced "short cutting method of tea tree", which can not only maintain the characteristics of improved varieties of tea tree, but also have the characteristics of large propagation coefficient, wide source of cuttings, convenient cutting and management in four seasons. Its tea seedlings have developed root system, thick stem and strong leaves, pure varieties, high transplant survival rate, and are welcomed by the majority of tea areas. At present, the annual breeding area of tea seedlings in the town is more than 30 hectares. According to 2.25 million tea seedlings per hectare, 75 million tea seedlings can be produced annually and sold to Fujian, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Guangdong, Guangxi and other tea producing areas. According to statistics, the annual output value is 12.5 million yuan and the net profit is 9.5 million yuan
