Weitang Street

Weitang street is located in the north of Chengcheng River in Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. It is one of the main urban areas of Jiashan County, formerly known as Weitang Town. It is one of the first batch of coastal open towns approved by the State Council. At the beginning of July 2009, Weitang street, after the adjustment of zoning, has jurisdiction over 11 administrative villages and 13 communities, covering an area of 57 square kilometers and a population of 171290 (2010). Based on the street oriented economy, it has developed a development road with Weitang characteristics of "attracting foreign business and attracting foreign business".

The predecessor of Weitang street is Weitang Town, which is the location of Jiashan County. In July 2009, it was changed from town to street system. It covers an area of 57 square kilometers, with a population of 171290 (in 2010) and about 140000 new residents. It governs 11 villages and 14 communities. Weitang street is located in the golden zone of the Yangtze River Delta, with Shanghai in the East and Jiaxing in the West. It is 17 km long from east to west, 90 km, 109 km and 91 km away from Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou respectively. It is the hinterland of the "Golden Triangle" economy of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, and is known as the "first stop connecting with Pudong" of Zhejiang Province. Historical evolution

Weitang is also known as Wutang. It is said that Wei and Wu, the great surnames of Song Dynasty, lived here and gathered together to become a city. In the Song Dynasty, there was an inspection department, and in the Yuan Dynasty, there was a Wei Tang Wu, which was promoted to a town. In 1370 (the third year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty), the administration of taxation was the tax bureau. In 1430 (the fifth year of Xuande in Ming Dynasty), Jiashan County was built, and the county government was in Weitang Town. The Qing Dynasty followed the Ming Dynasty. In 1912 (the first year of the Republic of China), it was called Chengxiang town. In 1928 (the 17th year of the Republic of China), it was divided into three towns: nationality, civil rights and people's livelihood. One year later, it was still called Weitang Town. In 1930 (the 19th year of the Republic of China), it was called urban area, belonging to the first district of the county. In 1933 (the 22nd year of the Republic of China), it was renamed Weitang Town again. In 1940 (the 29th year of the Republic of China), it was renamed weitangfang. In 1942 (the 31st year of the Republic of China), it was divided into Weitang Town and Wutang town, In March of the Republic of China, the two towns merged and were called Weitang Town. Jiashan was liberated on May 11, 1949, and Weitang district was established in June. In May 1950, Weitang district and Fengjing district were merged, and the former Weitang district was changed into Weitang Town. In June 1951, Weitang Town was upgraded to a town directly under the county. In October 1958, Weitang Town was abolished, and Fengtong and Luoxing were merged into Weitang people's commune. In November 1958, Jiashan County was abolished and merged into Jiaxing county. On June 19, the following year, Weitang Town was divided and Weitang Town was established In April 1961, Jiaxing and Jiashan counties were separated and the organizational system of Jiashan County was restored. Weitang Town was directly under Jiashan County. In June 1992, Luoxing Township, Fengtong Township, Shanxi Township and Lize village were expanded into towns directly under the county.
