Zhengyangmen
Zhengyang gate, commonly known as Qianmen, Qianmen Louzi and daqianmen, was originally called Lizhengmen. It was the South Gate of the inner city of Beijing in Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is located at the southernmost end of Tiananmen Square on the north-south axis of Beijing city and south of Chairman Mao Memorial Hall. It was built in 1419, which is one of the "nine gates of the capital" in old Beijing. It integrates Zhengyangmen tower, arrow tower and urn as a whole, and is a complete ancient defensive building system. According to the local chronicles, the city towers and archery towers at that time were magnificent in scale and tall in shape, and the urn city was magnificent, which was the representative work of the old Beijing city wall architecture. Now only the city towers and archery towers are left, which is the only well preserved city gate in Beijing. There is a Beijing folk custom exhibition hall on the tower.
On January 13, 1988, Zhengyangmen was announced as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.
Qianmen arrow tower
Qianmen Jianlou is located at the south end of Zhengyangmen. It was built in 1439, the fourth year of Zhengtong reign of Ming Dynasty. It has a history of more than 450 years. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jianlou was once connected with the wall of Zhengyangmen tower, forming a large urn. After the Republic of China, the urn was gradually demolished, and the majestic archery tower stood alone at the south end of Tiananmen Square, facing Zhengyang gate tower across the street.
