Wenjiang District, under the jurisdiction of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, is an important part of the central urban area of Chengdu. It is located in the heart of Chengdu Plain, adjacent to Qingyang District of Chengdu in the East, Shuangliu District in the south, Chongzhou city in the west, Pidu district and Dujiangyan City in the North, with a width of 18.5 km from east to west and a length of 33 km from north to south. Liucheng street, where the district government is located, is 16 kilometers away from the downtown of Chengdu and 18 kilometers away from Shuangliu International Airport. With a land area of 277 square kilometers, the district has jurisdiction over 6 streets, 3 towns (3 towns have "Street office" signs at the same time) and 118 villages (communities), including 35 village committees and 83 neighborhood committees (including 11 urban communities and 72 agriculture related communities).
Wenjiang District, known as "Liucheng" in ancient times, is the birthplace of Yufu kingdom in ancient Shu more than 4000 years ago. Wenjiang county was set up in the second year of emperor Gong of the Western Wei Dynasty (555 AD), 1465 years ago. It is known as "jinwenjiang" because of its rich land and prosperous industries. In April 2002, Wenjiang county was abolished and Wenjiang District of Chengdu was established, which has become an important part of the central urban area of Chengdu.
Wenjiang District won many awards, such as "outstanding achievement award of global ecological restoration and environmental protection of the United Nations", "China's best living environment demonstration Award", "International Garden City", "Dubai international best demonstration Award for improving living environment" and "national ecological civilization construction demonstration zone". In 2018, it ranked 70th in the "national top 100 comprehensive strength areas" and was selected as the "national top 100 new urbanization quality areas in 2018". The experience of rural property right system reform has been popularized throughout the country. The National Street Service Management Innovation Experimental Zone and the national rural waste classification and resource utilization demonstration zone have been successfully established, and the national mass sports work advanced zone and Sichuan industrial strong district (county) demonstration zone have been awarded.
Evolution of organizational system
Wenjiang District was the territory of Shu in ancient times. The "Bagua mountain" and "Damu mountain" in Shouan Town, northwest of the District, are said to be the tombs of King boguan and King Yufu of Shu; the "Yufu city" in Wanchun Township, north of the District, is said to be the capital of King Yufu. Many large stone relics related to the culture of ancient Shu have been found along Jiang'an River, which indicates that this district is one of the main areas of ancient Shu activities.
In 316 BC, after the Qin Dynasty exterminated Shu, Shu county was established in the former Shu state, and now it belongs to PI District of Shu county. During the Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period, it belonged to PI district and Jiangyuan District of Shu County in Yizhou. In 304 ad, Li Xiong of Cheng Han Dynasty occupied Shu land and set up Hanyuan County according to Shu county. Today, it belongs to PI district and Jiangyuan District of Shu County in Yizhou. In 347 ad, after Jin Dynasty was destroyed, Hanyuan County was changed to Jinyuan County, which belongs to PI district and Jiangyuan District of Shu County in Yizhou.
In the Southern Qi Dynasty (479-502 A.D.), Jinyuan county was changed into Jinkang county. The present area belongs to PI District of Shu County in Yizhou and Jiangyuan District of Jinkang county. Liang (502-557 A.D.) changed Jinkang County into Jiangyuan County in the Southern Dynasty. The present area belongs to PI District of Shu County in Yizhou and Jiangyuan District of Jiangyuan county.
In the second year of emperor Gong of the Western Wei Dynasty (555 AD), it was divided into the southern part of PI district and the eastern part of Jiangyuan district. Wenjiang District was first set up, belonging to Shu County of Yizhou.
In the Northern Zhou Dynasty (557-581 A.D.), Wenjiang District belonged to Shu County, the governor of Yizhou.
After the unification of China in the Sui Dynasty, there were many changes in the setting of prefectures, counties and districts.
In the third year of kaihuang reign of Sui Dynasty (583 A.D.), the prefectures were founded, and the prefectures ruled the districts, and Wenjiang entered PI district.
Renshou three years (AD 603) and from the division of PI, known as Wanchun district. At the beginning of the great cause of Sui Dynasty, the province merged with the States and changed them into counties. In the second year of Daye (606 A.D.), Wanchun District entered PI district.
At the beginning of Tang Dynasty, there were ten ways in the world, and the two-level system of prefecture and district was implemented. Wenjiang District belonged to Chengdu Prefecture of Xichuan, Jiannan road. In the first year of Qianyuan Dynasty (758 AD), the county was changed into a state, and Wenjiang District belonged to Chengdu Prefecture, Xichuan Yizhou, Jiannan road.
In the Five Dynasties, Shu was under the jurisdiction of the former Shu, the latter Tang and the latter Shu. Local administrative districts were established and basically followed the Tang system. Wenjiang District was still the Chengdu government of Yichuan, Xichuan, Jiannan road.
In the third year of Qiande (965 AD), Emperor Zhao Kuangyin sent Wang Quanbin to destroy Shu, ending the split situation since the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms. He implemented the three-level system of road, state and district. In the Tang Dynasty, he set up Xichuan road in Jiannan, East and West Sichuan, and Wenjiang belonged to Xichuan road and Yizhou. In 981, Xichuan road and Xiaxi road were merged into Chuanxia road. In the fourth year of Xianping (1001 AD), Chuanxia road was divided into Yizhou Road, Zizhou Road, Lizhou road and Kuizhou Road, which was generally called Sichuan Road. In the fourth year of Jiahu reign (1059 AD), Yizhou road was changed to Chengdu Fu Road, and then Jiannan Xichuan festival of Chengdu Fu was restored. Wenjiang belonged to Chengdu Fu Road and Jiannan Xichuan festival of Chengdu Fu. In the Southern Song Dynasty, the subordinate relationship was the same as that in the Northern Song Dynasty.
After the unification of China in Yuan Dynasty, Zhongshu province was set up in Dadu (today's Beijing), and xingzhongshu province was set up in all parts of the country, under which there were roads, governments (departments), prefectures and districts. Wenjiang is under the jurisdiction of the recording Department of Chengdu Road, Sichuan Province.
In the early Ming Dynasty, Sichuan Province was still set up. In the ninth year of Hongwu (1376 A.D.), it was changed into Sichuan Chengshi department. The roads below the province were abandoned and the government was changed. The province and prefecture were changed into districts. The three-level system of government, prefecture and district was implemented. Wenjiang belonged to Chengdu government of Sichuan Buzheng department.
At the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, it was still established in Sichuan Province after the Ming Dynasty. In 1646, it was changed into Sichuan Province. At the beginning of Jiaqing, Daos were added between the provincial capitals, forming a system of provinces, Daos, prefectures, departments and districts until the end of Qing Dynasty. Wenjiang belongs to Chengdu Prefecture, longmao Road, chengmian County, Sichuan Province. In 1908, longmao road was renamed West Sichuan Road, and Wenjiang belongs to Chengdu government of West Sichuan Road.
In the first year of the Republic of China, the Beiyang government abolished the road, and took the government, prefecture and department directly under the province. In the second year of the Republic of China, the whole Sichuan was divided into seven roads, and the government, prefecture and department were abolished at the same time. The next year, the whole Sichuan Province was changed to five roads, and the three-level system of province, road and district was implemented. Wenjiang District belongs to Xichuan road of Sichuan Province. After that, warlords separated and formed a "defense zone system".
In the 24th year of the Republic of China, the KMT came to Sichuan to take charge of the administration and implemented the administrative supervision district system. The whole Sichuan was divided into 18 administrative supervision districts (later reduced to 16). Wenjiang county was the first administrative supervision district in Sichuan Province and was under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner Office of the first administrative supervision district.
On December 26, 1949, Wenjiang was liberated. In 1950, Sichuan was divided into four administrative districts, namely, Eastern, southern, Western and Northern Sichuan, which belong to the southwest administrative region as well as six Xikang provinces. Wenjiang county is under the jurisdiction of Wenjiang administrative region of Western Sichuan administrative department, which is under the jurisdiction of the office of the Commissioner of Wenjiang administrative region. In 1952, four administrative districts including Western Sichuan were abolished, and the organizational system of Sichuan Province was restored. Wenjiang District belongs to Wenjiang special district of Sichuan Province (changed to Wenjiang District in 1968). Until 1979, it was still under the jurisdiction of Wenjiang District administrative office.
In March 1983, the State Council decided to abolish Wenjiang District, and most of its administrative regions were assigned to Chengdu.
On April 14, 2002, with the approval of the State Council, Wenjiang county was abolished and Wenjiang District of Chengdu City was established, which has become an important part of the downtown area of Chengdu.
In 2004, the four towns of Liucheng, Tianfu, Yongquan and Gongping were abolished and sub district offices were set up.
In 2006, the people's Government of Chengdu approved Wenjiang District to set up sub district offices in Wanchun Town, Jinma town and Yongning Town.
In 2019, the administrative divisions of some towns in Wenjiang District will be adjusted to abolish Yongsheng Town and Jinma town and establish Jinma street; Yongning Town will be abolished and Yongning Street will be established.

When Wenjiang District was first established, it was composed of the southern part of PI district and the eastern part of Jiangyuan district. The area separated by PI district is about Yushi, Shouan, Zhenzi, Wanchun, Yongning and other townships in the north and northeast of the district.
According to "Yuanhe County District annals · Shuzhou · tangxing district", it is stated that "tangxing District of Shuzhou is the original district of Hanjiang River". There is Dujiang River, named Zaojiang River, passing through dongerli of the district ". Tangxing district is now Chongqing District, and Dujiang river is the main stream of Minjiang River, Jinma River, which flows through the district. It belonged to Chongqing District in the middle of Tang Dynasty. Therefore, the area separated from the east of Jiangyuan district is about the west of today's District, Tianfu, Jinma and other towns on the East Bank of Jinma River.

During the period of the Republic of China, the boundary of Wenjiang District was roughly the same as that of the Qing Dynasty. According to the records of Wenjiang District in the Republic of China, Wenjiang district is 50 Li to the south, 90 Li to the East and 15 Li to the west, and 42 Li to the South and North.
