Life story
In the 30th year of King Huai of Chu (299 BC), King Zhao of Qin enticed King Huai of Chu to join the alliance of Qin (now Xianyang, Shaanxi). Ministers such as Zhao Sui and Qu Yuan opposed King Huai's going to Qin, but he urged King Huai to join the alliance. King Huai entered the Qin Dynasty, was detained by the Qin Dynasty, and later died in the Qin Dynasty. King Qingxiang ascended the throne (298 BC), he served as Ling Yin and took charge of the military and political power of Chu. He and Shangguan framed Qu Yuan and forced him to exile in Jiangnan. In the seventh year of King Qingxiang, Chu people refused to return because they advised King Huai to enter Qin Dynasty. They dismissed Ling Yin and took over the post with Zijiao.
In the 30th year of emperor Huai, Qu Yuan returned to Yingdu. In the same year, Qin asked King Huai Wuguan to meet with him. Qu Yuan urged him not to. However, his son Zilan and others urged him to join Qin. King Huai did not listen to Qu Yuan and others' advice. As a result, he was detained by Qin on the day of alliance and died in a foreign country three years later. After the arrest of King Huai, King Qingxiang took over the throne, and Zi Lan was appointed as Ling Yin (equivalent to Prime Minister). The state relations between Chu and Qin were cut off for a time. However, in the seventh year after taking over the throne, King Qingxiang married Qin to seek temporary peace. Because Qu Yuan opposed their shameful stand and accused Zilan of being responsible for the humiliating death of King Huai, Zilan also instructed Shangguan to spread rumors and slander Qu Yuan in front of King Qingxiang, which led to Qu Yuan's exile to yuan and Xiang again, about the 13th year of King Qingxiang.
