Baoshan Jade Buddha Temple, formerly known as Cuiwei building, is a place where scholars and CI poets gather in Yongchang Prefecture. In 1986, master Miao Ming, a famous returned overseas Chinese monk, settled here to change the appearance that only four jade Buddhas are worshipped in China. He opened a mountain to build a temple and invited jade Buddhas from Myanmar. The temple is close to Longyang No.1 middle school, Zhuangyuan building and Yuhuang Pavilion. Today, the Jade Buddha Temple has been built into Shanmen, buermen, sanshengdian and Daxiong hall. In the following few years, many temples have invited more than 50 jade Buddhas, Dishui Guanyin, Maitreya and reclining Buddha from abroad. The largest one is the Jade Buddha donated by Fu Fengying, an overseas Chinese living in Myanmar. It is 6 meters long and weighs 9.5 tons. It is placed in an ancient Buddhist temple in the Tang Dynasty. It is the largest jade Buddha statue in China. Baoshan is known as the "hometown of jade Buddha".
WOFO Temple
synonym
Baoshan WOFO Temple generally refers to WOFO Temple (Yunnan Baoshan WOFO Temple)
Wofo temple is an ancient Tibetan temple in the deep mountains. Yunyan mountain is not very deep. It is only 16 or 7 kilometers away from Baoshan City. However, it is full of ancient trees and shade. It has "hidden" this famous millennium old temple at home and abroad: Wofo temple. In Baoshan and even in the jungles of Yunnan, Wofo temple can be called "senior elder". In the past, it was generally believed that it was built in the fourth year of Kaiyuan (716) of the Tang Dynasty. Now, researchers of local history have found four words from Yongchang Fu Zhi: "built in the Han Dynasty". This has pushed the "age of the temple" forward for at least 500 years.
In the Wofo temple, the first thing that comes into view is the Hongbi Lake outside the mountain gate. The water is as clear as a mirror, clean as dust, surrounded by green willows like smoke, soft branches blowing on the water. Gazing at the shallow bottom, you can count on the broken stones of swimming fish. Unconsciously, your heart seems to be "filtered", and you will have a sense of life and coolness. Walking into the mountain gate, the courtyard is divided into two parts. The two rooms are for monks' houses and teahouses. The furnishings are simple and clean, which can be used for tourists to have a rest. The flowers and trees in the courtyard are luxuriant and fragrant! Through the front yard, looking up to the west, you can see a magnificent hall under the rocks covered by auspicious clouds and auspicious trees. On the plaque, there are four gold characters "Yunyan Reclining Buddha". The main hall is not an ordinary one. It is a natural stone cave. The stone patterns in the cave are intertwined, the bell and breast are overhanging, and the layout is ingenious. The cave hall is an integral whole, which can be called the structure of "harmony between man and nature". Buddha is not an ordinary Buddha, but a jade Buddha carved from jade. It is about 6 meters long and weighs more than 9 tons. It lies on the side of the stone platform.
The reclining Buddhist temple has a dignified and elegant appearance. Yunyan ancient Buddha, originally more than 1280 years ago by the abbot sengjidao invited three craftsmen, spent seven years, on the cave under the wall of a huge stone carved. The body of the Buddha is three Zhang long and decorated with gold. The head is in the north and the foot is in the south. One hand is bent to the side of the pillow and ear, and the other hand is stretched to the knee. The eyes are slightly closed. He lies soundly and calmly.
Brief introduction to temples
Wofo temple is located at the foot of Yunyan mountain, 16 kilometers north of Baoshan City. It is famous for having the largest giant Reclining Buddha in China. The reclining Buddha is 6 meters long and weighs 10 tons. It is said that it is the largest jade Buddha in China. It was built in the fourth year of Kaiyuan in Tang Dynasty (716 AD).
Folklore
According to legend, there used to be a stone cave leading directly to the Nujiang River. Due to the blockage of huge stones, the river water could not flow in. Once, when the river burst open and the boulders surged in, Baoshan BaDun became Zeguo. A brave Dai youth saw this and blocked the entrance of the cave with his body. The people survived. Later, to commemorate him, people carved the huge stone in the cave into a Buddha statue, which is the giant Reclining Buddha.
