Shangqiu Yellow River National Forest Park

Shangqiu Old Yellow River National Forest Park (eco-tourism zone) is located on the old Yellow River in the north of Liangyuan District, Shangqiu City, Henan Province, with a total area of about 65 square kilometers. It is an important part of the national tourism route "Yellow River Tour -- the soul of the Chinese nation" and the "three points and one line" Eastward Expansion tourism hot line of Henan Province. It is one of the "three major" top-quality tourism brand projects of Shangqiu City determined by Shangqiu municipal Party committee and government One. It is a bright spot at the east end of the "Great Yellow River tourism line in Henan Province". In the park, there is the ancient city site of Meng County, the birthplace of Chuang Tzu, a thinker of the Warring States period. In December 2002, it was approved as a national forest park by the State Forestry Administration, and in August 2006, it was approved as a national AAA scenic spot by the State Tourism Administration.

Historical evolution

In 1128, Kaifeng, Tokyo, stayed in the southwest of Huaxian county to make the Yellow River flow through Shangqiu.

In the fifth year of Xianfeng (1855) of the Qing Dynasty, the Yellow River burst northward from the Dongbatou of Tongwaxiang (now in Lankao County), thus forming the old yellow river channel in the north of Shangqiu.

After suffering, the people of Eastern Henan ended the Yellow River flood nightmare, but it was the wind and sand disaster after the Yellow River diversion. These popular ballads vividly describe the situation at that time: "vast white, wild, no one in three li, no village in five li, half of the bowl is yellow sand soup" and "strong wind blows to the bottom of the plough, the strong wind stops, the ditch is full of trenches".

In 1958, in order to lock up the sandstorm and improve the saline alkali land, the former state-owned forest farm of Shangqiu City (later changed to the state-owned forest farm of Liangyuan District) was established and carried out large-scale afforestation activities. After decades of construction, 177000 mu of windbreak and sand fixation forest has been built, with a forest volume of 18000 cubic meters and a forest coverage rate of 85.1%. It has poplar, Robinia pseudoacacia, Paulownia, Toona sinensis, neem and other large-area tree species, as well as eucommia, ginkgo and apple, pear, apricot, persimmon and other economic forests. The state-owned forest farm has become a natural green barrier in Shangqiu, greatly improving the natural conditions around the old Yellow River, eradicating the mobile and semi mobile sand dunes in the old Yellow River region, and improving the ecological environment quality of the old Yellow River region. The ten thousand mu plantation in Shangqiu Old Yellow River region has become a model for human beings to transform nature, improve natural conditions and ecological environment, and a model for human intervention in nature and harmonious progress between human and nature.

In September 2000, Liangyuan district Party committee and government of Shangqiu City proposed to implement the "three lines and one road" development project in the whole district, that is, the development and construction of national highway 105, national highway 310, north line economic belt of Shangyong highway and ecological tourism belt of the old Yellow River, and the development of ecological tourism of the old Yellow River started.

In November 2001, Shangqiu Huanghe (old road) Tourism Development Co., Ltd. was established by Shangqiu Liangyuan district government. Liu Qinxue, a photographer, served as the chairman and general manager of the company.

In April 2002, Liu Qinxue became the director of the state-owned forest farm in Liangyuan District, and began to apply for Shangqiu National Forest Park along the old Yellow River. The planning area of the National Forest Park of the old course of the Yellow River is determined. It starts from the national highway 105 in Liukou Township in the East, ends at Zhengge village in Lizhuang Township in the west, borders Caoxian County in Heze City in Shandong Province in the north, and borders on the embankment of the old course of the Yellow River in the south. The total area of the park is about 65 square kilometers. It is composed of more than 20 scenic spots, including the Central Park of Shangqiu Forest Park, tianmuyuan scenic spot and Tianquan Lake scenic spot.

On December 3, 2002, the State Forestry Administration officially approved the establishment of Shangqiu Yellow River National Forest Park. This is the only national forest park built entirely on the basis of artificial forest in China, and its construction fills the blank of the National Forest Park of uninhabited forest in the plain area of China.

On August 26, 2006, Shangqiu Yellow River National Forest Park was rated as a national AAA scenic spot by the National Tourism Administration.

Historical remains

Shangqiu has rich cultural heritage and numerous historical sites along the old Yellow River. There are mainly: the birthplace of Zhuangzi, a thinker of the Warring States period and a representative of the Taoist school; the ancient city site of Mengxian County; Liukou ancient ferry, a well-known dock on the edge of the ancient Yellow River, as well as the Lu guild hall and Shanxi guild hall.

Cultural legend

Up to now, there are a series of moving historical legends such as Yongzheng's rest, Liu Yong's appreciation of the scenery, Hua Tuo's practice of medicine, and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's practice of martial arts.

Tianmuyuan Scenic Area

There are more than 12000 mu of water in tianmuyuan scenic area of Shangqiu Yellow River National Forest Park.

Tianquan Lake Scenic Area

Tianquan Lake scenic area has a water surface of more than 5000 mu, with an average depth of about 2 meters. The two places encourage each other, with clear water, shallow fish in the lake, lush reeds by the lake, and migratory birds all year round, making it a unique "water town in the north".

The Central Park of Shangqiu Forest Park

The Central Park of Shangqiu Forest Park is densely populated with white birds and wild animals. The South Bank of the old yellow river stretches across the old dyke of the Yellow River, which is known as the "Great Wall on water". It is 13 meters above the ground on average, forming a unique "suspended river" landscape of the old Yellow River.
