history
Zhengyangmen east station of Jingfeng railway was built by the British in 1903 and opened in 1906. It was the largest railway station in China at that time. The station faces Jiaomin Lane in the Near East in the North (embassy area from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China), and Qianmen business district in the south.
The construction area of Zhengyangmen east station of Beijing Fengshui railway is 3500 square meters. The station building is European style, with 2 floors underground and 3 floors above ground. There are three platforms in the station, about 377m in length, and two of them are equipped with awnings. There are 7 arrival departure tracks with effective length of 340-430m. There is a gate on the original north wall to the east of the station, which leads to the embassy area of Dongjiaominxiang, commonly known as "Shuiguan". The west end of the station is equipped with a waiting room. The ordinary waiting room is located in the building, while the first and second class waiting rooms have another waiting hall, with a total area of 1500 square meters.
Zhengyangmen east station of Beijing Fengshui railway was the largest railway station in Beijing from the end of Qing Dynasty to the middle of 20th century. In 1912 and 1924, Sun Yat Sen arrived in Beijing twice and got off at Zhengyangmen east station. After 1937, it was renamed Qianmen station, Beiping east station and Beijing station.
After the new Beijing railway station was built and put into use in 1958, Zhengyangmen east station was closed in 1959. In the 1960s, it was transformed into the science and Technology Museum of the Ministry of railways. Later, it belonged to Beijing Railway Bureau and was transformed into "Beijing railway staff club", Beijing Railway Culture Palace, and the waiting room was transformed into a theater. In the 1970s, in order to make way for the construction of the subway, the clock tower as the center made a "mirror symmetrical translation". The location of the bell tower was originally on the right side of the station. During the reconstruction, part of the buildings on the left side of the bell tower were demolished and rebuilt on the right side of the bell tower. Only the west wall to the north of the bell tower and the section to the west of the North Wall really retained the original structure and brick wall, and the rest of the walls were reinforced concrete structures after the reconstruction. The appearance of the building still retains its original historical appearance. In the 1990s, it was rebuilt into Qianmen old railway station mall.
