catholic church
Jilin Catholic Church is located on the west side of Jiangcheng square, near the north end of Jilin bridge and south of Songhua River. It started in 1917 and was completed in 1926. This is a Gothic building. This architectural style was originated in northern France and prevailed in Western Europe from the 12th century to the 15th century, replacing the thick and dark semi-circular arch Church of Roman style. In front of the Catholic Church, there are three minaret shaped buildings with crosses hanging on them, which are the main buildings of the church. The middle one is the church bell tower. Every Sunday or Catholic Festival, the bell sounds clear and lasts for several miles. The whole church building uses bluestones collected from ashhada. Chisel into different specifications of the combination of stone base, stone column, carved with patterns, matching. The church is built with special blue bricks. There are 16 large round stone pillars, 24 glass windows painted with images, gypsum statues and five sacrificial platforms in the hall. The idea is novel and unique, reflecting the color of the fusion of religion and national culture. Catholicism was introduced into China after Matteo Ricci, a Jesuit missionary, arrived in China in 1508. In 1682 (the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty), he first entered the northeast. From the 18th century to the early 19th century, the spread of Catholicism in China was suppressed. Except for a few areas such as Macao, it was interrupted for a time, and it did not recover until the reign of Daoguang. In 1838, there was an independent diocese in Northeast China, presided over by Bishop Fang ruowang, which lasted for more than 30 years. After 1905, the parish of Jilin was presided over by the Foreign Missionary Association of Paris.
