brief introduction
Yuhuang cave is located in Makong mountain to the west of Zhangjiajie City, also known as thunder cave. It is 8 kilometers away from the city. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Hunan Province and another scenic spot in Zhangjiajie City. Yuhuang cave is named after the Jade Emperor carved in it. It faces tongjiayu in the East, Chongshan in the south, Fengquan cave in the West and Makong mountain in the north. In front of it, there is the famous Tomb of Haowang mountain (located in dingjiarong, only 1km away from Yuhuang cave).
Yuhuang cave is one of the nine caves. The other eight caves are Fengquan cave, Yujin cave, haobi cave, Mochi cave, HuLong cave, Xiongshi cave, Kongsheng cave and causal cave. The nine caves are equally famous. The reason why they are named after the Jade Emperor cave is that there is a Buddha statue of the Jade Emperor carved in the Jade Emperor cave, and the Jade Emperor is the largest among all Buddhists. The other reason is that the Jade Emperor cave is the highest among the nine caves. In view of these two reasons, it is the general name. Yuhuang cave is the most complete group of caves preserved in Hunan Province. There are dozens of figures and animals carved in the grottoes, which are divided into heaven, earth and earth. When you visit Yuhuang cave and climb up the stone level from Yangyang spring at the foot of Makong mountain, the first thing you see is Yujin cave. Yujin cave is also known as Tianmen earth cave. The cave was completed in the 12th year of Jiaqing (1807 AD). The cave is 10 meters high, 7.8 meters wide and 9.6 meters deep. In the cave, there is a carved earth God. There is also a couplet, the first couplet: "hair to the South moon", the second couplet: "pen array to recover the Big Dipper". The chisel statue of Kuixing riding Aotou is ingeniously designed. The head of the fish is in the upper hole, while the tail of the turtle is in the lower hole. The scale and size are appropriate, and the figure is vivid. Kuixing, barefoot and barebreasted, one foot on the fish, really has the potential of "taking the lead"; the other foot is cocked up, showing a dignified and dignified posture. One hand holds the pen high, the other hand clenches the fist, has the literary and martial arts double perfect meaning. In addition, Kuixing cave is also carved with Luban God, which is also worth watching and thinking. There is a plaque on the statue of Luban, which is written with four characters of "Fangyuan Zhiye", and the couplet is "no more than rules, and the ink is deep in the standard". From Kuixing cave to Mochi cave, 20 meters to the West. The cave was completed in the fifth year of Jiaqing (1800 A.D.). The cave is 9.2m high, 7.9m wide and 18.5M deep. History follows
Located on the south wall of Makong mountain, about 7 kilometers west of Zhangjiajie City, yuhuangdong grottoes were donated by local squire Li Jingkai in Qing Dynasty. Li Jingkai, also known as Li wurui, also known as jiudongle, is a student of insight. He was born in 1742 A.D. and died in 1825 A.D. at the age of 83. Mr. Li has a rich family. He studied hard when he was young and had a lot of talent. After decades of official career, he failed to succeed. So he saw through the red world and found another comfort. He invited craftsmen and spent a lot of money. Relying on the natural cave of Makong mountain, he cleverly designed the layout according to the upper, middle and lower directions and dug eight holes in three layers, namely "heaven", "Earth" and "hell". In addition, another cave was dug in Fengquan cave about 3 km away from here, so it has the nickname of "jiudongle". The upper layer of yuhuangdong Grottoes is yuhuangdong, and the human layer is Yujin cave, haobi cave, Mochi cave, HuLong cave, Xiongshi cave and Kongsheng cave. The underground is causality cave, and the eight caves form a complete chaotic world. The Jade Emperor cave, the first of the eight caves, is carved with a statue of the Jade Emperor, which means "heaven" is supreme. The eight caves are collectively called the Jade Emperor cave because they command the "human world" in the middle level and the "Earth" in the lower level. The construction of the cave started in 1799 and was completed in 1807, lasting eight years. The caves are carved with statues of some historical figures and a large number of poetry tablets. Not only are the stone carvings exquisite and unique, the statues vivid, and the calligraphy vigorous and atmospheric, but also the theme of the grotto art expresses the feelings of Li Jing, the patron of the grottoes, who is happy and never met, cynical and yearning for the peaceful and prosperous times, and castigates the decadent imperial examination system, As well as the thoughts and feelings of ordinary scholars at that time, all have certain historical value. The cave is more than 300 meters long from east to west, with 19 existing statues and more than 50 stone carvings. It is the only well preserved cave art group in Hunan Province. In 1959, Yuhuang cave was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Hunan Province.
