Wang's father and son
Wang Niansun and Wang Yinzhi are the outstanding representatives of Qianjia school and the backbone scholars of Yangzhou school. Wang's father and son not only systemically collated many ancient books and records, but also made great achievements in the fields of phonology, literature, exegesis and collation. Wang's father and son have a lot of works. Their representative works Guangya Shuzheng, Shudu magazine, Jingyi Shuwen and jingzhuanshici are collectively called "Gaoyou Wangs four kinds", which are the most famous works of Qianjia school. Wang's father and son advocated and practiced the method of "using the ancient sound to verify the ancient meaning" because they brought the research and exploration of exegesis to a bright peak. At that time, "Gaoyou Wang's study" has become a synonym for academic masters, which has epoch-making significance in exegesis and is outstanding for thousands of years.
Wang's Memorial Hall in Gaoyou
Construction of Memorial Hall
The memorial is located in the middle of an old street called xihou street in the southwest of Gaoyou city. The gate of the memorial faces east and covers an area of more than 1000 square meters. In the three dynasties of the Wang family, the imperial court was an official with a big family and a great career. In the early days, the former residence was large in scale, with nearly 100 houses. Later, due to the vicissitudes of time, the descendants moved abroad, and frequent wars, some houses were destroyed and collapsed, some were moved to ordinary people's homes, and some were converted into factory workshops. In 1983, shortly after the reform and opening up, the local Party committee and government moved some workshops and residents of the factory to commemorate the father and son of Wang Nian and Wang Yin, the famous masters of phonology and exegesis in the history of Qing Dynasty, and encouraged the villagers and students in their hometown to cherish the memory of the sages, be diligent and eager to learn, and work hard. They repaired three East Chamber rooms, three North study rooms, one ancient well, and built three and part of the hall On the wall of the former residence, Gaoyou Wang's memorial hall was set up and opened to the public. In 1994, five main halls and six wing rooms were built to recreate the image of Wang's father and son. Outside the hall, there is a sign of "Gaoyou Wang's Memorial Hall" written by Mr. Qigong, a famous contemporary calligrapher. Above the hall is a gold plaque with black background and a simple brick carving with the meaning of good and auspicious. Turning to the north, through the round door hollowed out with grey bricks, a small courtyard came into view. The bronze statues of Wang Niansun and Wang Yinzhi in the setting of several bamboo poles standing against the wall are particularly eye-catching. Sitting on the stone bench, Wang Niansun's long gown is over the knee, his eyes are looking straight, his mind is calm, his left hand holds a wooden cane, and his right hand holds an open book. Wang Yinzhi, standing behind him on the right, puts his hands down, and his eyes are slightly closed, as if thinking. At the foot of the wall in the southwest of the statue is an ancient well once used by the Wang family. On the white and smooth stone well fence, it seems to be able to see the faint traces left by lifting rope to draw water, full of bright red flowers, as if the starry sky were bright. Parallel to the courtyard are three North Wing rooms facing south, which display the exhibitions of Wang's former residence and Wang's studies in Gaoyou, as well as many calligraphy and painting works of scholars. It is said that this was the place where Wang's father and son devoted themselves to reading. The main hall turns back to the north side of the round door hollowed out with grey bricks. To the west, there are five main halls with bucket arcades. According to reports, the main hall is intended to reproduce the original appearance of Wang's library. At present, there are only some old-fashioned tables and chairs for visitors to rest and admire. Above the main hall is a plaque inscribed by the calligrapher Mr. Sha Menghai as "a great master". On the back wall due north below is a portrait of Wang's father and son carefully painted by the late famous contemporary painter Mr. Cheng Shifa. In the portrait, Wang's father and son are old and thin, and one is over 50 years old. Although both of them have become masters of Confucian classics, they are hale and hearty, thin, and broad in Qing style. On the columns on both sides of the middle door of the main hall are couplets inscribed by Li Yimeng: "father and son are unique in Qianjia, and exegesis beyond song and Ming Dynasties".
Front yard of main hall
The courtyard in front of the main hall has three East rooms and three West rooms. On the front column of the East chamber is a couplet inscribed by Zhou zumo, the late famous professor of Peking University, which reads "generations study classics and ancient precepts, mountains and rivers cultivate talents". On the front column of the west chamber is a couplet inscribed by Wang Zengqi, a famous writer from Gaoyou, which reads "a generation of great masters are unique for thousands of years, and two kings are full of rhymes and calligraphers". It expresses his ardent hope for his hometown to respect culture and education, and for future generations. Both sides of the wing rooms are exhibition rooms, displaying various versions of Wang's father and son's works and modern scholars' and experts' articles and Monographs on Wang's father and son's Exegetics. Ye Shengtao, Wang Li, Liao Jingdan, Gu Tinglong and other late experts and scholars, calligraphers and painters have their handwriting on display. On the south side of the East and West Wing rooms are three small anterooms, which display the biographies and anecdotes of Wang's father and son, the history of Wang Niansun's overthrow of he Lu, and the origin and development of the story of Wang Fu's single flagpole. With the long and distant years, it is particularly interesting and reverie. Out of the front hall, there is a long and narrow courtyard, with scattered flowers, plants and ancient trees, surrounded by a corridor paved with gray bricks, extending to the hollow circular door on the south side of the screen wall.
Impeachment of He Lin
Wang's father and son, who are famous as scholars all over the world, once took a bold "anti-corruption" action. At that time, Wang Niansun, as an important official of the imperial court, witnessed all kinds of bad deeds of he Zhen, and risked all kinds of copying and cutting to impeach him. At that time, the emperor also had the intention to get rid of him. However, considering Emperor Qianlong's feelings for him, he had many doubts and was difficult to make a decision. Wang Yinzhi, who always adheres to his father's teachings and is forthright and upright, gave advice for his father. He added several key words to his memorial to "respect Chen and suppress thieves": "there are also common joys in Tang Yao's reign; when Yushun's reign comes, he will be punished." this made emperor Jiaqing repeatedly claim to be good, dispel all his worries, and wipe out the peace at one stroke, making the world very fast.
