Carp pond

Liyutan, located at the foot of Liyu mountain in Chinan village, Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, is the largest inland lake in Hualien County. The local people originally called it "Dabi", while the AMI people called it "Ba Nao". Later, it was named Liyu pool because it was close to Liyu mountain in the East. In a typhoon several centuries ago, a landslide forced Pengxi River to flow southward from today's Chinan forest recreation area. The sand and stone brought by the flood of Wenlan River in the north of the lake also blocked the Northeast exit of Liyu lake, forming today's Liyu lake. The newly formed Liyu lake is small in area. Later, the aborigines began to open up paddy fields and introduce water from Pengxi River. After the tail water flowed into the lake, the Carp Lake was destroyed It was only then that the pond gradually expanded, and a water gate was set up in the northeast, which became the appearance of the carp pond we see today.
