Because Jianwen emperor once took refuge here, it is also called "Longyin Temple".
In Baolun temple, the four Tangjin characters of the existing "Daxiong hall" in the temple are inscribed by Zhao Puchu, chairman of the Buddhist Association of China. The temple has a long history. According to folklore, it was built by Yuchi Gong of Tang Dynasty. Some people think it was built in the Western Wei Dynasty (535-556 AD).
Historical evolution
According to the records of Ba county annals, it was first built in the Xianping period of emperor Zhenzong of Song Dynasty (998-1003), but in any case, it has a history of more than 1000 years. It is said that Zhu Yunwen, Emperor Jianwen of Ming Dynasty, was forced to abdicate by his fourth uncle Zhu Di (later Ming Chengzu) and was exiled to Ciqikou, where he once lived in seclusion.
Therefore, the temple used to be called Longyin temple. In front of the gate of the original temple, there is a large plaque called "longyinchanyuan". Unfortunately, it has been destroyed. Because Jianwen emperor once lived in seclusion here, Ciqikou used to be called Longyin town
.
Prosperous period
With the arrival of emperor Jianwen, the Buddha light of Baolun temple is more dazzling, which can be seen from the top of the well to the bottom of Liziba. In the past, the temple was covered with layers of temples, dense trees, birds and green pines and cypresses. There are 16 temples and 372 Buddha statues. Unfortunately, the temple was destroyed in the war at the end of Ming Dynasty, leaving only one main hall.
During the Anti Japanese War, some of the surviving Zen houses in the back hall were also destroyed by Japanese planes when they bombed Chongqing. In the original main hall, there is a Buddha statue, which is a statue of the middle Qing Dynasty. The Buddha has a kind face, a slightly upward mouth, a tall body, and sits cross legged. The shape is solemn and vivid. As long as you enter the hall to worship Buddha, you will have the feeling of universal salvation and boundless Buddha Dharma.
Folklore
Although Baolun temple has gone through many vicissitudes, the Buddha's body is still golden, which makes people admire the superb skills of ancient religious sculpture artists. According to folklore, there is a Liumi cave under the ancient Buddha in the main hall. It can provide rice for the monks in the temple. Unfortunately, a greedy monk came out later and wanted to get more rice so that the Liumi cave would not flow any more.
It is also said that the cave under the Giant Buddha leads directly to the jiushigang beach of Jialing River. If you put ducks into the cave, you will soon see ducks swimming out of the beach.
