Pacific Coliseum
Shanghai marine aquarium is a modern large-scale marine aquarium with international first-class standards. It is divided into nine exhibition areas: China, South America (Amazon), Australia, Africa, Southeast Asia, cold water, polar, coastal and deep sea. More than 450 species from five continents and four oceans, more than 12000 rare fishes and endangered species are exhibited. There is also a 155 meter long underwater tunnel in the aquarium, which is also one of the longest in the world.
Among them, the most distinctive are the electric eel in South America, the saw ray and archer in Australia, the penguin in Antarctica, and the treasure grass sea dragon and ribbon sea dragon in the town hall. While marveling at the graceful figure of jellyfish, tourists will enjoy six different marine customs in the deep sea area, including the breathtaking "Shark Bay".
The layout of the building is like a pyramid. The whole building is composed of two buildings, the main building aquarium and the auxiliary building
First floor: there are hall, ticket office, gift shop and restaurant; visitors can take escalator from the first floor entrance to the third floor to visit the aquarium;
The third layer: fossil exhibition, Wulin Conference - aquatic life survival competition bionics exhibition, SOS save shark exhibition, rare aquatic life exhibition area in Yangtze River Basin, China exhibition area, South America exhibition area and Australia exhibition area. After visiting the third floor, the tourists go down to the second floor by escalator;
The second floor is divided into six exhibition areas: Australia, Africa, Southeast Asia, cold water, polar region and coast. After visiting the second floor, the tourists directly take the escalator down to the second floor underground;
The second underground floor: the main body of the aquarium, deep sea exhibition area. After entering an automatic pedestrian tunnel, tourists pass through the 650 cubic meter eagle ray water display tank and the undersea tunnel, and finally return to the gift center and restaurant on the first floor from the tunnel exit to complete the whole tour.
In addition to the unique freshwater and marine life in the world, the aquarium displays the world's rare species, such as grass sea dragon, ribbon sea dragon, jellyfish, penguin, spotted seal, sand tiger shark, statues of Chinese alligator, Chinese sturgeon and so on. In addition to displaying aquatic organisms from five continents and four oceans, a preface hall is specially set up to introduce the cultural and geographical environment of each continent.
The exhibition space displays the geographical and cultural features of the countries of origin of fish in different regions with decoration, theme, pattern and sound.
Theme exhibition area
China exhibition area: Shanghai marine aquarium is the only aquarium in the world with an independent exhibition area of China and the Yangtze River basin to display aquatic organisms unique to China, most of which are national protected animals, including Acipenser sinensis, Myxocyprinus, Alligator sinensis and giant salamander (giant salamander).
South America: South America has the most species and quantity of freshwater fish in the world. As one of the largest freshwater scaly teleost, megaglossus also thrives here. The Amazon River is the most extensive River in the world. It is inaccessible, covered with a large area of tropical jungle and full of mystery.
Australia: Although there are not many species of freshwater fish in Australia, most of them are endemic to other places. Why is that? This is because the Australian continent has been separated from other continental plates for about 50 million years, and the fish in the two places can not contact and cross. As a result, the freshwater fish in Australia have always maintained their own uniqueness.
Africa: there are not only Nile and Congo rivers in Africa, but also lakes in the Great Rift Zone of East Africa. There are many kinds of fish in Africa, especially Cichlidae in Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi. These lakes were formed 50 to 2 million years ago. At that time, a small number of fish entering the lakes from rivers adapted to their new environment. After countless differentiation, they developed into today's prosperous society.
Southeast Asia: Southeast Asia tropical rain forest is one of the oldest tropical rain forests in the world. With high forest coverage, magnificent natural landscape and rich biodiversity, it provides rich food and ideal habitat for the organisms living here. A wide variety of large-scale Southeast Asian fish live and work in peace and contentment here.
Cold water area: as the only exhibition tank in the cold water area, seal tank is another unique design of our museum. Here you can have close contact with four lovely spotted seals.
Polar region: listening to the wind whistling by, Penguin friends are waiting for you. I saw them in "tuxedos" swaying, showing their naive gentleman style.
Coastal area: entering this exhibition area, you will be shocked by the diversity of marine biological species, the richness of color and the peculiar living habits! Horseshoe crabs, which are known as "living fossils", coral reef slope fish which can change sex, grass sea dragon, ribbon sea dragon and other creatures with different forms, which are known as the "treasure of our museum", will make you linger!
Deep sea area: beyond the coastline, bays and coral reefs is the open ocean, where many pelagic predators roam.
Special exhibition area: since the opening of the museum, the "special exhibition", which has been held all year round, has attracted much attention from the outside world. It is called special exhibition because: it is a theme exhibition that integrates and presents biology in the form of special "Museum in Museum". It creates a better platform for more tourists to comprehensively and pertinently understand marine knowledge and biology, and it is also a science popularization and education garden that we strive to embody.
